    Intentional stress during flower

So I was reading or watching something the other day where they said if you give your plant really cold water close to harvest it will assist in developing more trichomes.

Has anyone ever experimented with stressing a plant out during let’s say the last two weeks of flower to get more triches? I’ve heard doing 48 hours of darkness before cutting down aids in this as well. Thoughts from anyone who has tested both ways?

GoodMorning GS, this is just me, but I've noticed if you wound a pretty cola, by bending it over 90degrees, an squeezing the stalk , , a couple of weeks before harvest, it seems to be the stickiest bud on the plant, an the loudest smelling,
Same principal when a deer takes a bite out of a bud, the plant tries to heal the damaged bud.
We been doing this for years, an will continue, just out of habit, I reckon.
Stress at the right time is a good thing on some plants, imo.

I’ll give it a try on a few buds. Thanks for the tip!

Cold water (specially in late flowering) can cause purpleing of the buds because it makes it harder for the plant to move around water. the idea behind two days or darkness before harvest is that the plant can use all the sugars inside the plant and the trichomes can keep developing but without making new sugars by photosynthesis or the light oxidizing trichomes. finally many people claim some forms of stress cause more trichomes but i haven seen a single person growing a side by side and only stressing one plant and then lab testing both to prove one has more cannabinoids. trichomes are very dense and full of complex chemicals, they are very expensive (resource wise) and take a long time to make, i personally dont think you can boost much the production of trichomes (they are protection from the sun and bugs) right at the end of the plants life when shes only worrying about finishing flowering.

I know a lot of folks that swear by stress, my brother hangs weights in his plants claiming the stress of the limb holding the extra weight makes it produce heavier limbs with more stickier buds. I too have seen broken limbs get bigger and stickier than those not broke over.
The best bud I ever smoked was grown in horable conditions, hot dry and alkaline soil. It looked good in the spring when it was wet, we put the same things in we always did, but at harvest time the soil was white! 6 plants survived enuf to make a single bud about a joint each, half an old school bong bowl would set you down! It was also the same seed I planted elsewhere that got 20+ feet tall.
I have never tried to reproduce that grow, but I have wondered what would happen if you changed the PH to above 8+ for the last 2 weeks or so. It would be simple as adding potash to the water.
I would also want to have at home testing to prove the results.
Edit I also have to wonder how stress may affect the production of THCP / Edit

Do you know of any home testing kits that aren’t an arm and leg?

Unfortunately no, the ones I see not only want an arm and leg but your left nut too!

Only way to really know is to always doit like DASS69 said. If you do a side by side it’s not enough. I would think if you grow a plant and get to know it well then you can tweak one thing and see the difference if any, otherwise it can be just hit and miss depending on the strain? Some strains respond well to training some don’t. For example, a guy says he has been growing the same plant for 30 years so he know it well to the point that when he tries a new product on the plant he can tell if it made a difference or not. So he recommends malted barley rope dressed because when he started doing that the plant was frostier and it cut 20% of the flowering time so the plant is frostier and finishes quicker. Now that’s a controlled experiment. In my opinion.

dressed the soil with the beer? here in mexico is a pretty common myth that beer will make weed grow stronger but never actually took it seriously, maybe ill try one day
