Hello everybody. I decided to do a grow Journal for this Maui strain I am growing with kind soil. After talking to the owner Phil from kind soil, I decided that I should give this a try. I have other plants that I'm growing in kind soil and there doing well, but I wanted to start this one because it is still very small. It is only been planted for a couple of weeks so far. This is my second grow, as it is legal to grow in Illinois now for medical patients. I have a 2.5 by 5 foot by six and a half foot tall tent. I have six platinum LED 150 watt lights. My first grow I only had three, and I think my yield was sort of small because of that. Hoping for a bigger yield this time.

Nice man, are those autoflowers? I've used KindSoil a good bit, and it's good stuff if you follow Phil's simple instructions, good water ,don't water to run-off, you'll do good.
Super easy, to do. And it grows some fine tasting smoke too.
I also heard those were pretty good lights, if you got 50-60watts a sg. ft, you ought to be fine. Don't know much about them though.
Have fun.Cfls for a week or two

Would love to hear more about how much soil/ratios, watering, how you PH your water, etc etc
Thanks!

Hey Billy Boy, Thanks for your reply. I was actually talking to Phil about how i ph my water. He was quite surprised on my method. I will have to post some pics how I naturally pH distilled water. I take one gallon Menards distilled water, and I add 1 and 1/2 tablespoons of Menards drinking water. It pH's the water to anywhere from 6.3 to 6.8 perfectly every time. I figured this out during my last grow, just messing around. I wasted about three gallons of water, but it was well worth it.

Just wanted to make a correction in my initial post. The Platinum LEDs are 150s, not to 250s. But I have six of them in a 2 and 1/2 by 5 foot tent. I also have some of them angled. Initially I was going to buy a more powerful single Platinum LED, but I figured for around the same price as a 900 w, i could raise them up and down in different positions rather than having one big light that I could never put in different positions around the plant. I will post some pics of the lights soon . Again hoping for a bigger yield this time. I will post some pictures about how i ph my water naturally with Menards distilled water mixing it with drinking water. I get a natural pH of 6.3 to 6.8 very easily every time. I'm also using Fox Farm ocean forest for my topsoil, on top of the kind soil.

Also forgot to add, I cannot use my own tap water. Too many ppm's, amongst other bad contaminants in the water. We actually have litigation going on with our little local water company. Nobody even wants to shower in it. So I would not give it to my plants, nor would I want to smoke it.

gags71 you are very welcome, but I'd still have some CalMag handy or Epson salt,,
GoodLuck
PS, Phil used to send free bags of KindSoil if you had some great flower pictures sent to him, I don't know if he still does it or not though, but I know I got my fair share of those free bags, all you have to pay is shipping, ask him about that next time you talk to him.

gags71 I run full spectrum strip leds. You will discover, as you said, you can swing those lights high, low, sideways or down , up.....and the plants will get some great light exposure. I did it with mine and had superior yields as did a few others in the forum. Lookin’ good!

What does this mean "All are Kind Soil with Fox Farm Ocean Forest."?
I get that the Kind Soil goes at the bottom but how do you judge how much of which soil? Do you mix with perlite? Do you still start your seedlings in a solo cup? Is the solo cup perlite and FFOF?
What size are your pots after transplant?
How do you deal with problems that are nutrient based?

Okay Billy boy, kind soil tells you the exact amount. You're supposed to put one pound of kind soil per gallon of pot. I have five gallon pots. So I put one 5lb bag of kind soil in, and then filled the rest with Fox Farm ocean Forest. You are not supposed to use anything else other than that, no perlite, and no nutrients. That's the whole idea behind kind soil. I start from seedlings in. Peat pellets in a humidor, then transplant into a Solo Cup, just in Fox Farm ocean Forest. Then I transplant them into the 5-gallon pots with the kind soil and fox farm ocean Forest. So far I have not had any issues with nutrients. Which means the kind soil is doing his job. Thanks for the questions, hope I answered everything.

As I promised in an earlier post, I would show you how I ph my distilled water naturally. You can get a good idea from the pictures, but I will explain as well. First of all this is Menards distilled water and Menards drinking water. I like to do 12 at a time, cuz it lasts me for quite a while. First I uncap all the distilled water bottles, to settle the pH, for about 5 minutes. Then I pour out just enough to get to this notch on the gallon jug. You can see where I drew a line. I pour it into a container, and save it for my humidifier. So no water is wasted. Once I get it to this Notch, I add 1 and 1/2 tablespoons of Menards drinking water. After that, I just recap it, shake it a little bit and as you can see this is where the test settles. This particular test settled at 6.57 P.H. They will range anywhere from 6.3 to 6.8. I have never had any below or above. And as you can see, I only used about a half a bottle of drinking water.

Hey Billy boy, this is only my second grow, I have been just trimming leaves. You'll see in the next pictures only four days older than the previous pictures, so just about three and a half weeks old now. I have way more light than I did in my first grow, and this seems to be helping, especially my older plants.

Your Maui looks great (I have one growing as well) - but - all I see is the main cola. Early on I cut off fan leaves that are blocking underneath growth - that allows those branches underneath to grow up vertically with the main cola. I just cut off 2 at a time to see how the plant responds. But it's your plant - and the color is great, nice deep green.3 X 3 gorilla. Promix soil . Green Planet Nutes

Okay so I decided to do an update today. Maui is only 4 days older than my last pics (3 1/2 weeks old). I have started to trim bigger leaves off, and it seems like the bud sites lower down are starting to sprout more now. I have a lot of light on them, hopefully they will sprout quickly. I took these pics only about an hour before lights-out, so it looks like it's getting ready to sleep. But I can assure you in the morning it will be sticking straight up in happy. The next pics, I'll make sure I do in the morning. Thanks again for all the feedback..
