It depends on what you're growing in, and what you're using for nutrients. If you're growing in DWC or straight coco (or any growing medium that contains zero nutrients) then you should be giving seedling-strength nutrients from the beginning for the fastest growth. Otherwise the plant only has what was contained in the seed until you give it more. If you're growing in soil you usually can wait a couple of weeks while the plants use up the nutrients in the soil.

In any case, it's a good idea to be checking the pH from the beginning because the pH being too high or too low can cause nutrient deficiencies even if the nutrients are "there" in the soil.
