    New grow

    Hi

First of all I just want you to know english is not my first language so maybe it will be a bad gramatical post here!

Second I'm aware there must be thousand of noob comming in here asking the same question again and again. I read A LOT about growing weed and by that I mean A LOT! But I want my setup to be good so I wanted to share my precise project to all of you who are experienced grower.

I'm new to growing. I just finished my house so now I have space to grow something green in the basement. I'm so excited!!

2 points that I learnt to be crucial

-Space: This is not a problem but I don't want to grow too much and taking risk.
-Budget: Money is not a problem. But still don't want to spend many thousand of bucks right from the start.

Grow room: 4'×4'×5' (Is it too much for 2-3 plants?) Best way to go is grow tent i guess?

Light: Going for led like 2 of them

    Is it too much?

Is ventilation needed in my case ? My basement is always steady at 20°c(68f) I guess led would give the extra heat needed?

I know growing weed smells but how bad (or good) my basement will smell?(Average strain)

Can I clone by the window? I read somewhere that clone don't need much light

Last question... the billion dollar question... the question that every new grower have on their lips...

I have read that rule of thumb of led growing is 0.5g/watt

If I have 2 plants of northern light(easy strain for beginer) and two 300w hydrogalaxy led

    Is it 0.5g*watt*plants?

0.5g*600w*2plants=600g=21.42oz (that seems impossible to me)

    Is it 0.5g*w/plants=150g/plants= 300g for 2 plants
    (still seems way to high)

maybe 300w is not the output but the max input I don't know.

I hope my post will not bored you! I tried to do my homework but need some extra info!

    Thanks you

Welcome! Two most important things to remember. Proper PH and a feeding plan that matches your grow medium.

I think that kind of statistics are calculated on a sea of green or a Scrog based on the footprint (total area of projected light) so let's say you have just one area with one light. And the light is the right size and intensity for the area then you could get .5grams per watt or even more. But two 300watt lights will produce more separated with independent areas than together in the same one. Also two 300 watts together produce more and cover more area than one single 600watt. Just my opinion base on what I've read I have actually never used this lights but he theory is very clear.
i would calculate the lumens needed for your space and go from there. Intensity of light is the limiting variable

Hi lufkum, welcome to the forum.

I grow 4 plants in a 4x4x6.5 tent in 3 gallon pots. You could grow 1 to 20 plants in that space, it's totally up to you. 5 feet high is limiting but you could certainly hit your half gram per watt. 11 ounces is quite achieveable with 600 watts.

As as far as clones, while they're rooting they don't need light, warm and humid until they do root, then you have to temper them to the light and drier environment. This is how my uncle does it anyway. I don't clone personally, still strain hunting for the foreseeable future.

Smell can be tricky... especially if it's illegal where you are. The smell is very noticeable for most strains, especially late in flower. You become accustomed to the smell and you don't realize how bad it is.... this is a good way to get caught....

Those northern lights should treat you well, from what I hear you have to try pretty hard to mess them up...

        Good luck.

I just want to grow 3 plants max but best would be 2.Should I use a smaler tent but higher ?

I want stick with the 2 300w led hydro galaxy and want the produce the max of my 2 plants.

          Do I need ventilation?

You're going to have a hard time filling out a 4x4 tent with two plants and only 5' height. I think you're better off with smaller plants, but more of them. You can go with a taller, skinnier tent, but then I don't know that you could fit two LED panels in there. You'd have to check the dimensions.

You don't need ventilation. It is recommended though to help control temps/humidity and exchange the stale air in the tent. If smell is a concern, which for a good majority of indoor growers, it is, then ventilation is a must. Along with a carbon scrubber.
