    Hard Water

Hello, I am brand new at this and just getting started and would appreciate any help you can give.
I am on my own well but its really hard water, i am thinking of setting up an inside grow tent, lights etc but i am worried about the water.

Will the water be ok for the plants? If not what is the cheapest way to deal with it?
Maybe a water carbon, or charcoal filter?

Thanks everyone looking forward to growing my own someday.

Do you have access to reverse osmosis water? If not you can get a relitivly cheap filter setup. Under 200 bucks in most cases. Do you know the ppm of your well water?

I have hard water. Ph averages just below 8; PPM varies between 130 and 180.

I use a mix of about 1 part peat moss to 3-to-4 parts perlite, straight tap water that has been allowed to sit a day or so, and Scott's Miracle-Gro Vegetable and Herb fertilizer (this is not the stuff Nebulae Haze warns you about). No ph meter. No RO water. No cal-mag (that's what's making your water hard). No buying FF soil with more bat guano on the package than inside it, then having Mr. Furley solve your nute problem. I do recommend an Electrical Conductivity (EC) meter to maintain proper PPM -- I try to keep things under 1200 PPM; water hardness + nutes.

This is really easy. I used this method in my younger outlaw days, and use it now that I can grow legally.

Here is a link describing what I do and how it works:

Some members have asked about this method of growing. It is not described on the website. The technique was described to me over 40 years ago and predates the popularity of coco coir. It is mentioned briefly in Ed Rosenthal's "Marijuana Grower's Handbook." Fertigation, basically, is hydroponics without the water.

One warning, though. The risk is your grow could look like this:

Howdy madkevin, I am on my ninth DWC grow and I have only been using 'hard' water (city water). Most of the water. used here, is from wells and the rest comes from reservoirs (lakes). I have not hade any mineral deficiencies from using it, nor have I had to supplement the grows with any additives. You can get the water checked at a lab, possibly thru a county agent or agricultural office if You want to know the specific composition of Your water. If You use R/O or distilled water, those necessary trace minerals will need to be added in for the plants. If the well water is drinkable and can be used on the lawn and house plants, then it is most likely O.K. for Your plants.
      Smoke weed,.....grow peace!
