Questions about topping, plant size and cycle switch timing

This plant was topped 2 weeks ago when I got it as an 8” clone in a 2” pot and transplanted it into 5 gal plastic pots in FFOF SOIL. I’m used to growing outdoors and when I’ve pitched the new growth, the plants would just shoot up a bunch of colas. This time the plant split into to distinct stems. After these photos I pinched the new growth (arrows) on the two stems of each plant. What I’m wondering is whether I topped them correctly or not.

My light has to be really far from the plants. (38” veg and 26” flowering). My plants are 15” tall now and they can’t get much more that 36-44” high total anything more I’d have to dim the light and sacrifice light footprint. I’ve never had to control height before and grew the biggest plants I could outdoors. When do I switch the photo period to get the right size plants? I’ve heard to switch at half finished size. My math says the plants would have to be switched when they’re 18-20” tall. That seems really tiny. Are these plants developed enough to switch in 1-1.5 weeks? Im trying to do a straightforward grow for my first tent one so I’d like to avoid bending or more LST. Also do I switch the spectrum when I go 12/12 or wait till preflowers form.

I'm right there with ya.... mine are right there about to need to be flipped according to the math & they don't look very tall. I guess that's why we do multiple grows/ year indoors & let em go wild one time outdoors.

Have you decided what you’re going to do? My plan is below.

Yes, I'm gonna trust the good folk on here with ages more experience than I & let them grow another 9-12in before I flip the switch.

    If you have 96 inchs
    Minus your pot (12")
    minus your light distance (44")
    minus your plant (15")
that will double or triple in size ( another 15-30")
You need 86" to 101" if you do not train them as of right now.
    Space for Rent.

Mr.furley When I switch to 12/12 And Change to bloom spectrum should I start giving bloom nutes right away or wait till I see preflowers?

After you flip your timer start bloom nutrients within that next week, I doesn't have too be spot on the flip.

Mr.furley will the plant keep growing nodes and branches after it’s switched or even into early flowering? It just looks so small right now.

Most plant will continue to put out new branches, bud sites, leaf till at least week 6 of flower if not till the end.
The plant really doesn't grow big untill flowering and it happens fast.
