    Pruning Bud Sites

I have 3 girls that I want done asap (2 girls I am going to manifold in another tent).

I was thinking on pruning lower bud sites so all the plant energy is focused into main cola, is this correct thinking? And if so when should I start pruning?

    Hi Weed

How old are they? You are in control on how many bud sites you have . It grows in a conical shape but if you top it it changes and gets bushy. Bushy is more buds conical is leggy some bud.

They are about 5 weeks old but I was having some issues (solved I think) so they are small, 5" tall 8" wide from leaf tip to leaf tip.

I topped them once so I should have 2 main colas.

This plant is about 8 weeks old I topped it twice and I see at least 8 but a few more colas. I was tired of waiting for it to get big it's in 12/12 now

cut all nodes you don't plan on keeping.....if you don't want sites in middle of branch...then cut them out...

Will it make the remaining colas better? It seems thats the theory I've read, I'd really like some confirmation.

GWEs website will walk you thru how to manifold (including pruning) but the technique sets you back a couple of weeks in the process. Nugbuckets has a great tutorial on GWE (he calls it main-lining) and I've used it to grow an 8 cola plant. The results were great. But, again, the process sets you back a couple of weeks in the veg stage. I think the articles on GWE will answer any and all of your questions.
I like big buds and I can not lie.

Read Nebula's tutorial until it makes sense and then think twice and cut once.

Its all about how deep the light is gonna penetrate the canopy. With CFL you must clear everything under 30cm or around that. But a more penetrating light like HPS or LED can grow very tall colas without having to clear them. Except when the buds are totally hidden or too close to the main stem where you want air flow. Bottom line. You gotta experiment with your light

This is probably wrong but it's the way I do it. When my top buds are ready to cut,it opens up more light for my bottom buds to ripen. I do a lot of of low stress training, and some fan leaf removal,or transitioning.

I do find that that the cola sites I leave more fan leaves on produce bigger buds, than the ones I remove a lot of fan leaves off of.

That's kind of what I concluded from what most growers write. I'm on cutting fan leaves that mess with bud sites I want to keep.
