First time grower - seeking advice!!

    Hey guys,

I was recommended to this thread by a friend as a great place to ask questions and receive tips/ advice when growing your first plants. Really glad to be here.

I have a closet off of my living room that I have converted into a "grow room" to the best of my ability while also keeping costs low. Check it out (pics attached).

I am planning on covering the window completely with black sheeting, to keep all light from coming in, and also making it able to open/close in order to control temperature/ have the ability to install intake/outake fans. Would this be a good idea?

I am also planning on hanging 3 lights ( http://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-60-Wa...0160/204667690 ) from the sockets shown in the picture. My question is which types of bulbs should I get? I have been told to go the CFL route to keep costs low. Also to get 2 2700K/ ~50watt CFL and 2 6500L/ ~50watt CFL, running 2 6500K/ 1 2700K during vegetative state and 1 6500K/ 2 2700K during flowering stage.

I understand that not everything you read online is necessarily accurate which is why I came here. I am very new to this so am looking for any/ all advice to make my first grow successful! Thanks all!

    Mac

You need a space that is totally dark. No light leaks for you flowering period. Make sure there is plenty of air circulation. Look at my signature, you can see what I use.
I suggest you spend a couple of hundred bucks and buy a grow tent. Then you can eliminate all the window taping and keep the open area as you vegging place.

No, I'm not sure where Green lives. I'm from Montana

Make sure to at least double layer the black plastic over window. Depends on the mil you use. The lighting sounds right, although I don't use CFL's. The 6500K is good for vegging while the 2700k is good for bloom. Also make sure that when door is closed there are no light leaks around the door frame. Intake and outtake fans are always good to have, and if you need to worry about odor control, a carbon filter. Sounds like you are on the right track.

I'm sure some others with more experience using CFL's will be along to give advice. Good luck and keep us updated.
