Topping & Netting

Two questions for as I progress in the vegatation period. Why would one top a plant so low? Someone told me to basically top my plants down to about half its height and although the info they provided made sense i am curious as to how low you go when topping?

second question, how do you apply Netting to train the growth of your plants? Would you do this during flowering and at what week number? I was told to stabilize branches as the plant grows but is this necessary? Is there a wrong way to use Netting?

hi😋 I'm still chumping but hope this helps. I top low so I can get a canopy as close to the flowerpot as possible cause size for me is an issue cause I grow in a small cupboard.

I put the net where I want my canopy to be in relation to light distance and bend the branches under it but you can weave it through. put a top in every hole which dont take long in my small grow then switch to flower. you can put a second net above that to hold the colas when they start to fatten up I've never bothered

screen of green and even main lining or manifolding will shed a better light there in the grow tutorials on this site

The reason we top and keep our plants short in veg is because they double or triple in height during flowering. Indoors, we only have a limited height usually. For me i have a 5ft tent ad a 6ft tent, but you also have to take into account the distance to canopy which is usually a foot or two depending on lights. Then on top of that you have the pot height and have to take in account size of lights and ventilation leaving 3-4 ft height to play with for actual growing. That is why we train "low"

I've never done netting, but the idea is that tuck all the growth underneath the net until flower and it keeps it nice and even. The problem is, when you do that, the plant is pretty much locked into place and cant be moved. Especially once it starts flowering and growing above the netting. That doesnt work for me cause i like to turn my pots and move them. I use landscape staples to pin things down in coco (or soil) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and use garden twisties for minor adjustments

I would read the tutorials that alltatup posted. They will explain things more like how and when to top and how to do SCROG.
