Somehow after transplantation the tap root managed to turn 180 degrees and come out the top of the rapid rooter. I was about a day slow in realising what was happening, and the tip of the root was beginning to curl and brown.
I performed surgery and moved it into a second rapid rooter cube (sliced both cubes open carefully) facing in the right direction. I had about an inch long tap root at that point, and put the up facing end about 1/4" below surface. There's a GWE article on this surgery.
It didn't do much for a few days but now it's pushing up through the surface and first leaves are unfurling. It might still go sideways though...
How soon can I give this girl some nutrients? Her sister is just putting out a third pair of leaves not including cotyledons. The two are sharing a reservoir.
