    More Hydrogard?

Just did my first water change, I noticed there was a lite brown film on bottom of tote, no smell and no slimy water feel. Should I add more hydrogard? I follow the instructions for proper amount. Can too much hurt my plants?

    Hi Joker

Did you rinse the hydroton good? Sounds like that is the residue. For the 5 gallon water I use 2 teaspoons in a water change, thats all you need.

You can't really go overboard with Hydroguard, but I think adding more doesn't help after a certain point. Just make sure you're not using H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) or anything that can kill the bacteria. You want to give the bacteria time to build up in numbers inside the tank. As far as what you're seeing, it definitely could be from the Hydroton. If your roots look completely white you have nothing to worry about
