    Question about roots.

Does a weed plant take up water at the end of its roots only, or along the length of its roots?

Plants take up water and nutrients from their root hairs. So anywhere they are actively growing. The main root structure is mostly inactive and is for stability and transport and growing more root hairs into new nutrient and moisture reserves.

From my understanding, the fine hairs on the roots absorb the salts (nutrients), the rest of the shafts of the root system (no matter where it's hidden) absorbs the water and together they regulate how many of those nutrient salts the plant takes in.
