It's day 69 since first flowers for my 5 White Widows and I'm not sure if they're quite ready yet. The buds went through a swelling period around week 8-9 and are now heavy and hard. There were lots of new growths popping out on the colas during that time but that appears to have slacked off some. Most pistils are brown (except where new calyxes keep popping out) and many trichs are getting milky but the progression has gotten impossibly slow. There are some amber/brown trichs but it seems only in patches while there are still quite a few clear and half-clear ones as well. Photos attached show the canopy, 2 buds that are maybe near ready (?)(photo2) and 2 that will probably be last to harvest which also display some of the weirdest growth from week 7-9 (photo3). Then there's closer and very close photos of the "maybe near ready" buds and finally a bud that just now started a new growth on its tip (photo7).
I've been reading that White Widow can take a long time to finish (sometimes up to 12 weeks) and can be tricky to determine because new growth keeps erupting and trichs seem reluctant to go amber/brown. My goal is a 50/50 head/body high and most of this crop is going into edibles (thus, the shaggy stuff below screen that I didn't remove). I'd like advice from someone experienced with harvesting White Widow about how these look and if you see anything concerning. I lean toward the "hands off" approach to things so I'm not doing anything special to them at this time. This is a FFOF grow w/8 T5's in 7 gallon pots w/almost no additives (a little GH "Bloom" in early flowering weeks). Light schedule has been 10/14 for a few weeks (longer than I expected), temps are ~70-80 (night/day). Humidity has been challenging; was running ~50-65% (day/night) but just now installed a dehumidifier that's keeping it ~35-45%.
I'm a little concerned that the top leaves are turning and dying off while lower stuff is still all green and hanging on, although I did read about this in a couple of other reports. I'm also curious why the frostiest buds (like snow!) are in the little stuff lower down in the shade. At one point I reduced lighting and added fans because of erratic bud growth and top leaf tips curled up; it looked like light/heat stress which then subsided. Things I've considered doing for the finish include cutting light hours to 8 (have read good and bad about this), turning off 1/2 of lights, raising lights... or just leave them alone and wait 'em out. Some experienced advice would calm my fears of screwing up and help me sleep better!
