    Tap water and chloramine

I have been using store bought spring water for my five gallon bubbler, and may be over thinking things cause I still have to take the Ph down a bit. My tap water has a 6.9 Ph and 97 ppm. With the tap water my concern is the chloramine. So far my research says, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice per gallon will kill the chloramine. It also takes my Ph down from 6.9 to 5.8 ,which I believe is satisfactory. Plus I believe the tap water has some useful minerals. Does anyone see any problems with this ??

All you should need to do is, fill a container with water, do not cover or cap it. Let it stand for at least 24 hrs. The chloramine with evaporate out. The water company makes sure to let people know about this since chloramine will kill fish in aquariums. I have some 1 gallon milk jugs I fill with water. I usually let my water sit for 48 hrs since I don't water every day. I use about half the water I have sitting when I do water. So most of the time the water I use sits for 4 or 5 days before I use it

Your tap water sounds just fine. I use a activated charcoal filter to take the chloramine out of the water. Good for thousands of gallons. Mine is a Boogie Blue.

what I have learned so far:
      environment maters more than nutrients
at least a dab of nutrients in every watering
effective flushing before harvest is critical to quality

I actually sounds like you have pretty high quality tap water! I have never heard anything about using lemon juice to neutralize chloramine, but I think your tap is probably good to use as is!

My bad. I incorrectly said that chloramine could be evaporated from the water after 24 hrs. Attached are photos from my water company stating the danger of chloramine to fish and how to remove chloramine from your water . The biggest problem with chloramine is ammonia. Ammonia gets converted to nitrogen. That's why farmers use straight ammonia for crops that needs lots of nitrogen. People water their lawns, outdoor plants, indoor plants with water containing chloramine. Personally, I am not aware of anyone who has damaged their plants or lawns due to the chloramine in the water. But it's always good to be suspicious of the government - Flint, Michigan!
