    Photoperiod Help

    Hi All,

I've got my first grow underway with 6 seedlings from a friend. I don't know what they are, but they're all apparently from good stock. Here's a couple of pics:

I have a 600W HPS light with cool tube, but my MH bulb died a premature death. I've had them outside for the last 5 days and they've been up for 4. I had been thinking of leaving them outside for the veg phase and then bringing them inside for flowering, partly because I don't have the MH bulb and partly because it's free light and better than I can provide. I brought them inside today because it's been raining and overcast for the last few days.

I'm currently getting around 15 hours of daylight outside and they'll get about 12 hours of direct light. I've read that you can influence the plants expressing themselves as male or female based on light schedule, humidity and stress, so I'd thought about keeping them at a 14/10 sched at about 3-4 weeks, which will coincide with the daylight hours here. I'd like to get good root growth, too, and I'm happy to trade off vigourous veg growth for an extra female or two. Here are a few questions I have:

    1. Does anyone have any experience with using light scheds to influence gender?
    2. Will there be any negative effects from having the plants emerge at the summer solstice and get progressively less light until week 4-5?
    3. I was thinking of putting them on an 18/6 sched when they're 4-5 weeks old until I change to 12/12 to flower. Thoughts?
    4. I plan on manifolding based on Nebula's instructions, so I'm not sure how long I should wait until I switch to flowering. I've got 8' of height to work with, minus the light hood, but I was thinking of switching to flowering at about 20-24" high, especially since I don't know if any of the plants have a significant sativa component. Suggestions?
    5. What's the crap in the pots? It's poop and hair from Ginger Snaps. He, and his offspring, have contributed to my organic gardening for several years now, though we're just down to Snaps now. Here's a pic (he's the one in the cage, not the one licking her chops):
