    Timing for Pollen Collection

I have never attempted pollination. I've always chucked the males or only utilized feminized seeds. Now that I've found a few strains that I want to always have available, it seems a little silly to keep buying those seeds. I've read what's available on GWE. But how do you determine when to collect the pollen? I assume too soon may not allow enough time for the pollen to form, and waiting too late may allow unwanted pollination. Is there a good "rule of thumb" to follow for timing collection? Thanks in advance!

Clarification: This is in regards to utilizing the method of collecting pollen sacs before they open on their own.

When the pollen sacs are ready, the leaf section protecting the pollen will start to crack. At this point it's time to collect the feminized pollen. One of the easiest ways to do this is to collect the pollen sacs directly and let them dry for a week. At that point they can be placed in a bag and shaken to easily collect all the pollen

Yeah, like Chefbjy says, you can also cover the pods with bags ,and it will fall in the bags.
I'm planning on getting me some seeds this year, from my plants.
