I just did a trim on this one and i think this is a perfect example of an 8 cola ML. The only thing that could make it better would be if i had put the plant in the pot a little more cantered. As it is now,, one side will reach the edge of the pot before the other,, is may or may not prove to be a problem when the colas are allowed to grow up.
But I don't think any two sides of a plant grow the same and i might have to harvest in two seperate times. We will see.

Here we see that i have added a ring of wire to the edge of the pot to give me something to tie the stems to when they get a little longer. I didn't like the idea of making holes in the fabric to run the wire through, so this way is less invasive. These pots are great for growing in and can be used over and over again. They were cheap to begin with @ 5. 3gal pots for $17.001 PhotoA man believes what a man desires to be true.

Gordo, your plants are looking fantastic. I can't wait until I can give this technique a try. We haven't harvested yet, but I don't thing we'll be starting our next grow until Early spring. Would love to grow over winter, but tent is in garage and we don't want to use electricity for space heaters out there.

Tomato cages...cut them down to bottom of legs on second ring from top...put it in your planter.....cut the very top ring inbetween the uprights and then proceed to bend it down and open to where you have a perfect extended metal ring to tie off to...as your plant stretches continue to bend metal ring down.....easy pz....reusable and works great....I drew a dumb picture.....1 Photo

Yep that works very well, and i have done that on my tomato plants outside,, but im going with the metal clips, and will pic some up today. I did use the cage on some outdoor grow i had a few years ago and it worked great. But on this grow i want to be able to remove the pots easley from my tent every week to check the run off and such and a cage would be incovienant.
I may move all the photos outside for flowering and then it would work well to use the cage.
Thanks for your suggestion.

You can definitely still pull out of tent....the cage also allows you to bend the plants lower than to just clip on a clip and tie off to it
You can control the stretch better.very easy to handle
This way offers more options.......
Either way tho....both cats are skinned1 Photo

I agree and its a brilliant idea,, but if you look at my tent you can see there is no room to have wires coming off the sides of the pots. Otherwise its a great way to train them if i had the room.. maybe on the next round of MLs in the spring i will only have 3 plants in the tent and will try your method. I do like it. The drawings are so cute. Right now im almost out of product and need to stock up asap,, hence the two autos. And crowded tent.

Today i did a little defoliating on all the plants including the autos as any big leaf thats blocking light from a bud site is off the plant.
I also used the metal binder clips to hold the stems to the side of the pot on any plant that was at the point where the stem had reached the rim of the pot.4 PhotosA man believes what a man desires to be true.

Ok, the MLs have finally reached the side of the pots so i can secure the stems to the edge of the pot and let them grow up.
I have them on a 24/0 light scedual right now but in a few weeks i will put them into flower at 11/13.
here are photos a shot yesterday.2 PhotosA man believes what a man desires to be true.

Thanks so much Gordo41 I did this my last grow and it looks like almost a pound with 2 plants but I didn't get enough of the under carriage cut and I think it sapped getting bigger colas. Glad you're here to help
I got 18 oz off my last grow 2 plants, I'd love to hit the 1 pound a plant mark.Last edited by Karlee; 10-26-2016, 06:49 PM.Bubblehead

this is another plant that also has 8 colas but was done a little differently. All i did on this one was to top it 3 times to give it the 8 colas. It has all the ML look and it works the same way but without tying it down to the edge of the pot. This may be the way i do them in the future.
here's a few pics of it.
