First grow Journal and Self Topping auto

Hi everyone, so after a whole lot of reading and a couple of posts on here I decided to log this grow, I was going to document this grow as a budget setup but the first seed went and did something interesting.

Firstly, a little bit about my setup...

When I started reading on growing my own it was the appeal of the space bucket that caught my attention... the size and discretion mostly but it still wasn't ideal. So I settled for a small tent.... a very small tent. This gave me a ready to rock package with minimal fuss but it also gave me a bit more height to play with for using an led light which I also intended to try. The tent is 40cm x 40cm x 120cm (roughly 16" x 16" x 48")

I'm growing in coco coir with perlite (~30%) in a 17 litre smart pot and using Canna Coco A and B.

The seeds I ordered were a Northern Express auto flower by Fastbuds. Which should be quick and short... enough to prove I can do this!

First seed was germinated on Saturday 10th March and was showing a taproot approx 36 hours later. From there it was into a solo cup and within another 24 hours it had started showing the first signs of sprouting. First picture shows the first signs of the serrated leaves.

It was just after this that the seedling started doing something interesting. Instead of the next growth stem and node the plant appeared to produce a single leaf. Pictures 2 and 3 were posted and some help identified it as a possible self topping plant.

I was given a link to a page here I had not seen before which detailed some anomalies and I had to concur, it certainly did look similar to the plant used in the example.

I could see at the base of this new single leaf growth that there was new growth getting ready to make its presence know and following some reassurance that the plant was looking just fine otherwise I decided to at least give it another couple of weeks to see how it developed and how this affected the plant.

The last few pictures are from this morning where you can see that this growth has developed into a pair of leaves.

Fingers crossed this one starts to develop properly, I would hate to put my first grow in the bin!

    Any advice, tips or criticisms?

    Thanks all!

Just a little update after checking in this evening. Everything is growing well, so far as I can tell anyway. New growth is certainly starting to develop quickly!

I will need to think about transplant into it's final container at some point in the next week. It's due water tomorrow so I think I might leave the transplant until next water... I think it's still a bit early yet!

I think that transplant can wait a little bit. That way you don’t mess with the rapid growth

Thanks 9finger, I was thinking the same, it isn't needed for a little while yet. There is a little explosion of tiny leaves going on just now.

It's pretty cool that they can be so small and yet still absolutely identifiable!
