The Lower East Side Ecology Center (Ecology Center) has been pioneering community-based models in urban sustainability since 1987. Founded by Christine Datz-Romero and Clyde Romero, long-time residents of the Lower East Side, who believed in a people-centered and people-powered approach to creating an urban ecology that includes green and healthy living through recycling, reuse and waste reduction. Over the last 30 years, the community-based models pioneered by the Ecology Center has been replicated city-wide.
Today we provide e-waste and composting services, environmental stewardship opportunities, and educational programming. We offer opportunities to all New Yorkers to learn about environmental issues and take responsibility for creating solutions through action
