    Ventilation help

Hey folks new to the forum and to the art of cultivation. I’m about to setup my ventilation system. Planned on buying an amazon kit. Any guidance on the best kit would be helpful. Using a 36x36x72 hydroplanet tent with 400w same brand hps. Also curious when the switch to 12/12 occurs do I tie the ventilation system in to turn on and off with the timer or does it run continuous? Thanks in advance

Morning Fent, and Welcome to GWE, that's a nice set-up your getting, but if possible, you might want to go with a 600watt instead of 400watt, I think 600watt has about been proven to be the best pot growing light.
Is that your plant, that you are growing, in you Avatar? Nice plant.
Nebula has got great information about ventilation in some of her tutorials, she can tell you lots better and easier than I can. Check out Nebulas tutorials.
    and again welcome. Fent.

Your welcome, I hope you find the tutorials, if you can't find them, I'll be glad to try to help you ,.it's not hard to do, I've got a tent like yours and I use a 6inch exaust fan, and intake fan, you want negative pressure in your tent, it will suck in ,your tent will, when you have negative pressure, you might could get by with a 4inch, but 6inch is better.
You also need a fan or two inside your tent as well.
I can tell, you know how to grow already, that's a beautiful, healthy looking plant. What kind is she?

How you run your vent system, helps you control R.h. and temp. in the tent during veg. and flower. Once you start getting some big fat juicy buds rockin the the tent and stinking to high heaven, you'll probably wanna run your air scrubber 24-7. Just sayin....

Hi mate...my advice would be not to buy a kit but to build it up from good quality bits. The reason is that I have bought these `kits` and found that I ended up replacing separately and with better quality. It`s a false economy in the long one. Good luck though on whatever option you take

I have the same size tent with a 4" inline fan with a variable controller and it's on the highest setting and it's not containing the smell from my tent. I would recommend a 6" duct/fan setup to get even more airflow. My second identical setup is underway with some autos and I fear I will be in the same boat with a big smell problem on my hands. I don't know for sure that a 6" would take care of all the smell, but I can only assume more airflow and a stronger fan would help.

Agree with others that you need to consider temp, humidity, and later smell in determining vent use and needs. Also need to consider where you are venting to and drawing air from and if you plan to use active or passive intake. If heat is an issue at all go with at least a 6" exhaust because you need to vent heat from lights. In most set-ups high humidity becomes a serious issue if you turn the exhaust off. My exhaust fan has not turned off in months through Veg and Flower.
Agree with PaganRich and had similar experience.

Yea I tried turning my fan off for one dark cycle. 78% humidity it topped out at. Not good as I was sitting in the low to mid 40’s with it on.

Appreciate the information. Being my first official indoor grow I’ve never been more stoked

Hey, I was recently having ventilation issues in my 4x4x7 tent. My issue was because I'm forced to vent back into the room my tents in. Even with my 4" fan I found myself with 60-70%RH on rainy days. I bought a window unit with a built in dehumidifier and that's helped drastically, I'll prob still get a dehumidifier for late bloom. Just remember, venting your tent isn't the same as cooling it. Learned my lesson $200 later lol.
