This is my second grow. My first one was a little rocky, but the single plant survived thanks to advice from the people on this forum. It was Somango XXL from Nirvana. Due to overfeeding it was burned, the yield was low, and the stress caused it to turn male so some of the buds were seedy. Nevertheless it was delicious smoke, and now I have 2 more Somango XXL babies in veg. I want these ones to turn out better than the last, so I was hoping to gather some advice early on!
They were sprouted using the wet paper towel method and planted on January 20th in solo cups containing 50% FFOF, 25% peat moss, and 25% perlite/vermiculite mix. They popped up on the 22nd and were transplanted into 1gal pots 2 weeks later. Shortly after I topped them both, but accidentally ended up FIMing one by mistake. Since then I just let them go. Yesterday, February 22nd, they were transplanted into 5gal pots. I also did some LST to try to get all the leaves some light. I plan on switching them to flower in 10 days on March 5th, but I have a few questions before I do.
First off, there are some spots on a few of the leaves (pics included) that I figure are from pH flux, am I correct there? I use distilled water and pH to 6.5 each time, but it may have varied a little bit.
Next, I figure I should so some trimming before I flower. When should I do that, now or immediately before flower? Based on the other pics I've included, how much should I trim? Should I take off the smallest branches, or just the lower/secondary bud sites on the branches? Should I take off the lowest fan leaves? Scissors or a razor blade?
Finally, when should I start giving them nutes during flower? I figure after a few weeks they'll start to show signs of deficiencies like light leaves and such, and then I'll start at 1/4 dose? I have Fox Farm nutes as well, so should I just run Tiger Bloom and Big Bloom or the whole trio? And where does Cal/Mag fit into all this? What about Sledgehammer, the flushing agent? Should I flush the soil before I start feeding nutes? Gosh I'm such an amateur.
I know that's a lot but any and all advice is super helpful. Thanks for taking the time!!
