Flushing

So here is my set up. I’m doing DWC using General Hydroponic ‘s Flora Trio of nutrients, CaliMagic and HydroGuard in a base of RO water with the PH adjusted to 6.0. I change out my solution weekly and top off throughout the week with PH adjusted RO. One lesson learned already about RO is that I need to supplement my top off water with CaliMagic since my new growth was yellowing due to an iron deficiency. But I digress. When it is time to flush, I don’t really want to use a product. I intend to flush with PH adjusted RO. Should I continue to add CaliMagic or not?

I’d like to hear from you about your flushing techniques.

This is just my opinion so hopefully the other folks here will be kind to me if I've gone too far off the beaten path. I am no means an expert.

I too grow in a 10-gallon DWC (5 gallons of RO water) using Advanced Nutrients PH Perfect 2-part nutrients (grow & bloom) and SM-90. I change my reservoir weekly unless otherwise needed.

The object of flushing is to force the plant to stop feeding from the roots and instead get nutrients from whatever she has stored in her leaves. So as such, during my flush my plant gets nothing but RO water without any PH adjustments.

What? I don't adjust my PH? Ask yourself: What do most PH adjustment fluids consist of? They consist of chemicals that the plant will gladly absorb as food through it's roots. And why bother adjusting the PH to begin with? To help the plant absorb nutrients, right?

I like to begin my flush around 5 days before chopping. That's more than enough time for the plant to use up any food stores before she starts cannibalizing herself.

Howdy Bigpapa, I have used the GH FloraKleen for flushing and have had great results with it. The curing time seems to be reduced and the 'green harshness' is greatly reduced. I do not know what is in the product, but it works. I have not used just plain water to flush, so I can not compare the two methods.
