    After 15 Days...

I have been watching a number of vids on youtube regarding the first two weeks of seedling growth. Almost every video I see the plant look way more developed than mine. I have been struggling with my first grow. I planted 8 seeds in rapid rooters in a humidity dome and only one survived. I realized later on that I had a heat mat but I did not know a thermostat was needed. So I basically cooked the seedlings. Lesson learned. My Blue Moon strain survived. I have since planted 4 more seeds that are a week or so behind my Blue Moon. I am using grow buddy app to monitor my days and plant development. I have attached a pic of my Blue Moon which is 15days in on an 18/6 schedule under a 400W light. I have transplanted it into a 5 gallon pot with some organic soil. My second pic is of Jiffy pellets. I only have 4 seeds planted in the tray. The center 4 are what has been planted. These guys are 7 days in and are under the same 18/6 400 w schedule in my tent. Can someone let me know if the development is normal. Again the videos I'm seeing online are showing plants way bigger than what I have managed. Also when looking at the jiffy pellet pic do you guys see that long root that made it out the pellet. Should I transfer this pellet now. This is a cotton candy strain if that helps to get an answer. Thanks in advance.

Hi bob, if it were me I would first add a bunch more perlite to the potting soil before I did any thing else. Then either go to solo cups or to their permanent home. Gently bury most of the stem, get more light on them. Enter seedling in the search bar above and read what Nebula has to say.

It may be the pot size, I remember I read on GWE regarding possible slow growth if the seedling is in too big of a pot.

Your seedlings look pretty, the ones in the tray seem to be stretching but that’s fine if they are you can just cover up the stem with your medium and move your lights lower 👍🏼 When you move the babies in the pellets try placing them in a 12 oz plastic cup or .5 gal pot to see if you notice faster growth then move on to ur 5 gal or smaller Last week i transplanted from cups to 3 gal pots and it seems like a lot to me but it will allow for training
They say it’s a small world, In reality it’s a large prison

I am a newbie and have no idea what perlite is lol..... but I'm assuming its a medium or some sort of nutrient. I will do the search as suggested Primo. Thank you for a response.

Arkados I have a couple of solo cups. They are the smaller ones. The seedling with the root I will transplant today. I did notice some stretching but I think it was due to my lights being so far away initially. Thanks for your response.

I use the jiffy peat pellets with no heating mat. I just give them a light squeeze after I put the seed in.
a 400w light is about WAY too much for a 2 week seedling unless it's 3-4 feet above it. You really just need some CFLs at this point. I also use cups for the first month.
growth seems about normal for soil at this stage to me.

I transplanted into a cup from the tray. I'm concerned about moving the plant I have in the 5 gallon pot. I read the article regarding growth and it makes sense....but do you think I should disturb the plant for another transplant? your thoughts would be appreciated on this one. As for the light my temp is stable at 73.5F. My 400W light is about 18" away from the top of the plants. I do not have any CFLs but i thought the issue was ultimately temps and not the actual light. Again I am a newbie and anything I'm stating has been fabricated by my reading of forums topics. So I don't claim to have any real knowledge. This is my first grow.

It's quite of bit of light for seedlings as said above. It's all about root development at this point. Seedlings can't withstand that kind of light. You're better off with some clip on lamps and cfls or leds. Also florescent lighting like a t5 grow light would be better. I used 2 100watt leds in some cheap Walmart clipon lamps for 4 seedlings and they outgrew their containers pretty quickly.http://www.growweedeasy.com/seedling-problems
