    First time making tincture

Okay, so I just made some tincture. I used 1oz of bud to 2cups of 190 proof Everclear using the Magical Butter 2 machine. And I followed the directions EXACTLY, even used a second oven thermometer to make sure decarb temp was spot on.

Anyways, it tastes terrible number one. Any tricks to help with that??

Also, what is the proper way to take it? It tore up the skin under my tongue. I couldn’t imagine doing that daily. How long should I hold it under my tongue? Swollow??

And what should the effects be?? I have a pretty high tolerance, but when I tried it I didn’t feel anything. Maybe just, calm? Or chill? I can’t really describe it, but I for sure wasn’t high.

Just looking for some tips and advice, all comments are appreciated!

Dood totally. Mine tastes like shit too, and burns. Once you have finished product, you could put the drops in a spoon of something to dilute it with before you take it. I thinkI read on one of Tika's journals that she puts it in a shot of orange juice. Gin might cover it up.
Nothing is foolproof for the sufficiently talented fool.

Dingus, Don't add more alcohol to take away the alcohol burn!!

Kpenn, I take my tincture with a little bit of oj. I have a flat-bottom tablespoon; I add dropper of tincture and about as much oj, a little more, but not more than I can hold under tongue.
I hold it under my tongue with no problem that way, and mine's made with everclear 190. Then I swallow.

I use about 14 grams of bud and just cover it with everclear so like 8-12 ounces. If you decarboxylate, then freeze the bud and the alcohol, then put them together and shake every cpl hours while keeping it in the freezer for anywhere from 3 hours to 24 then strain it threw a coffee filter you will get golden dragon. It tastes much better. I reduce the alcohol ( fan on a pan) to about 3-4 ounces after its all filtered then add 1/2 to an equal amount of water and a little glycerin and a few drops of food grade flavoring. I put 10 drops in my coffee and it takes care of my pain for most of the day. If I do 15-20 drops I get baked!

Excellent! I'ma try that on these next CBD tinctures I will make.

Plus you have got it figured out: 10 drops is pain management, and 20 drops is gettin nice and high.
This is another way to look at the biphasic effect, I think: So many articles just refer to folks getting dry-mouthed and nervous or anxious with too much THC, but the articles don't mention getting real high as a good thing.

I should mention im a fairly low dose kinda person ATU when it comes to any meds. I did vicodan for 12 years before I found relief from cannabis and I only Needed 1/2 pill and three ibuprophen a day. Course I walked around in pain alot cause I was afraid id get addicted. Id be willing to bet others will need a higher dose but the rule start low and slow is a good one.

I can't say much of use about the process, but maybe try using a liquor that tastes better, I have had good canna tinctures made from things like Sambuca, Grand marnay, Etc. Vodka is pretty good to. Maybe a little slower to extract the cannabinoids, but they all tasted fine, and were way easier to take, decent affect.

Dutchman1 great advice!! I’m going to try your method, could you go over your process of reduction?? I used the magical butter machine so it was pretty much effortless.

I used to boil to reduce Kpenn but I worried (and believe) I overcooked a batch. So now I decarboxylate with a NOVA, then after the tincture is made and strained I put it in a glass pyrex baking dish that you see in the picture above. I simply put a small table fan on a couple of books so its pointed at the long of the pan and put it on low. I reduced 10 ounces in about three hours to 3 ounces. It used to take me about two and a half to boil it down

Awesome I think I’m going to reduce the stuff I made then. If anything it will make it stronger so I won’t have to tolerate so much at once just to feel the effects, or I may just add something back to it. Thanks for the advice Dutchman!

Dutchman1 I did exactly what you said, glass pyrex dish, low heat, fan blowing over the pan. I used 6oz of tincture and reduced it down to 2oz

Suprsingly it tastes waaaay better without diluting it with anything else plus it’s now 3x stronger!

Anyways, thanks for the advice. It worked great I will definitely be trying that “golden” dragon instead of the green dragon next time as well

Sorry I wasnt more clear Kpenn. I dont put the pyrex dish on the stove on low. I meant put the fan on low. I dont heat it while reducing it. That said Anything I do with alcohol based tinctures I do a flameless stove. No one should be working near alcohol boiling on a stove with a flame. Also too many alcohol fumes or in concentration can be ahhhh unhealthy. So make sure you have adequate air flow, window open etc. Glad yours turned out well though.

lol well shit. It wasn’t hot enough to get to a boil it was on the warm setting so just enough to keep food dishes warm until you serve them. But

Yes I’m really happy with the end product. I’m going to do the same with the rest of the tincture I have

Now if ya get a NOVA then you never have to wonder if your decarbing correctly for maximum potency. Not a necessity though.
