Found some neat stuff at the 99 cents only store near my work, that’s actually where I found my 45w 3200 lumen cfls for a dollar. I looked mighty suspect buying lots of cfl bulbs . Anyways, Today I picked up some pot stands and it looks like they’ll provide good drainage for my 5 gal. fiber cloth pots , also picked up some thick plant ties and some labels. I’m happy I feel satisfied about my purchase lol!

Just a little up date , so far the first set of 3 babies are doing great they are under my t5 and on a 18/6 schedule. I’ll start feeding them GO box nutrients at half strength starting Feb 1.

I also popped 4 more babies trying out a soil, “sweat” germination method and they are under my DIY cfl light at a 24/0 schedule they are looking good far as I can tell .I’m just misting them until the serrated leaves unfurl then I’ll give first watering and set to 18/6 schedule. The nutrient feeding date is set to start Feb 5.

I have a total of 7 weeds when I am able to top I will top them all at the same node to try to bring them down to the same height. I intend to train 4 with manifolds, 1 a training experiment the other 2 Im unsure but I may want to use to create more seeds Of course the ladder is subject to change.

I also remade the frame for my current cfl light its better now lmao! I plan on making another cfl fixture with 12 bulbs, reflector and 3 on /off switches in the future. Until next update

I would leave light on constantly for seedling and most of veg. Keeps nodes close.

Initially I wanted to keep the majority of veg under 24/0 but I was swayed in my reading that the Plant needs rest as most living things. I will eventually try 24/0 I don’t know if I can hurt the seedlings going back on to 24/0 from 18/6

Quick recap and thoughts so far.

I am still iffy about germinating seeds but I guess that’s the way it is, some seeds will sprout and some will not depending on varying factors.

As a noob, I had a misconception regarding germinating, I was under the impression that after sprouting into a seedling I needed to keep them protected by keeping them in a dome or halved bottles and that my job was to keep the seedlings humid untilthey were rooted and could handle my lights. I’m assuming due to the massive amounts of information I was piecing togetherand “fear” of messing up I completely disregarded logic and messed up anyways.

The process I have adopted for soil is to soak the seeds in water overnight to pop the tap root. Once the tap root pops, in a solo cup or similar fill with moistened soil (not drenched) leaving about ½ inch from the top. Create a hole in the center of soil the diameter of a pencil a ¼ inch deep and place the seed tap root down in the hole and cover up with soil but do not compact. Tightly cover the top of the cup with plastic wrap and hold together with the use of a rubberband then place on a heating mat or someplace warm. Once the seedlings emerge through the soil and are exposed remove the plastic wrap and place under adequate lighting.

I have concluded that I do not like rapid rooters for germinating from seed. In my minute experience, the seedlings end up rooting in a hollow hole allowing space for the seedling to move around and it's not very stable. I can lightly tap the table that my babies are on and the one that is in a rapid rooter moves around a lot and the ones in soil do not move at all. I may be doing something wrong but I will more than likely use the rapid rooters for clones.

I have limited experience and I probably shouldn’t base my conclusion so early on. Rapid Rooters are tested and tried by many so it must be a user error on my part lol . Ill give em a couple more tries along side my preferred method as I get grows under my belt. Always good to hear from you DAAS

Hey Arkados, yeah, I reckon you have to get use to them, but they are real easy, put em in one quarter of an inch an just keep damp. I keep a light on mine like a cfl, about an inch away to keep them warm, an I don't use a cover on my Dixie cup.Good luck with yours Arkados. Try them again if you can.

Like dass said, got to find what works for you. I like to germinate the seeds before planting also. Once the seed opens I drop into a solo cup and cover with a sandwhich bag. Once seed sheds the shell, I remove bag, give it a spritz of water often. The light does not need to be very strong for first 3to5 day.
Ps I killed a seedling this morning, gave first nutes yesterday, must have got a drop on the leaves, cause this a.m. it's leaves were f ked.

    Update
I may be running into some complications some veins are turnin yellow and there is some brown discoloration unfortunately I don’t have a ph pen as of yet and no thermometers so I can’t give environment readings but I believe it’s either a ph problem or I may have a nutrient deficiency maybe calcium I don’t know it could have been heat related aswell. The last thing I changed was the water I went from using tap to RO from a aqua filtration store. I also saw a gnat on one of the cups on Friday it was just one I think it was a gnat because it was grayish translucent. I haven’t been over watering and always let the top soil dry out up to an inch but I bugged out and moved my babies under the cfl lights in a different area and I sterilized my tent. When I moved the babies back they all looked canoed I’m thinking the cfls were too close and that’s when I. noticed the brown spots and yellowing of the veins on the leaves . They’re currently under my t5 4 inches away I know I can get closer but am apprehensive at the moment. I made a foliage spray with cal mag+ and bio roots from GO. I used .25 of cal mag and of bio root dilution for the spray. It dosnt seem to have helped son thinking it may be ph or am I just trippin?

I was thinking of transplanting on Tuesday since that’s when I plan to hit up my local hydro shop and get some 2 gal grow bags. I have my final containers which are 5 gal root bags as i was going to transplant straight into 5 gal but then that wouldn’t be wise of me and Id Probably over water so instead ill transplant into 2gal then 5 gal. Think I’ll be okay in the cups until Tuesday ?

Update: I started feeding general organic line nutes at 1/4 str on 1/29 so a bit earlier than planned but I was eager.

2/1 - i transplanted the babies into 3 gal pots and fed nutes again but at full str. I’ve been reading that with the GO line it’s feed every watering. Only 5 are being kept in 3 gal the two slow growth I will be flowering early in smaller pots probably 1 gal

I had to throw them under a 1000w MH but have it set at 40 percent so at 400w I believe. I didn’t want to but my t5 is only a 4’ 4 bulb not big enough so I must pay 😩

    #24
I need some assistance, i am currently running a MH dialed down to 400w. I really wanted to get a new light for vegging but I’m going to hold off as I can now feel the heat and humidity so I may aswell tackle this now. Can someone suggest a setup for an air cooled hood , I’m not going to run c02 yet.

I was thinking of running ducting from outside the tent to a 6” in-line blowing air into the air cooled hood and ducting out the other side keeping the air being blown over the lights out of the tent. Then just have another in-line inside the tent blowing air into the carbon filter and ducting out the top essentially sucking air out of the tent. For something like I mentioned do I need to have an Active air intake or can I just leave a vent flap open and it’ll suck air in through there? I don’t want my tent to collapse lol any help is welcomed.

    Im in a
    4’x4’x 6.5’ grow tent
Im vegging at 400 but want to flower at 600w
my hood has a glass cover

I don’t have a carbon filter, my basement can stink all it wants I run a 6” in line fan outside my tent that is connected through ducting to my tube sucking the air and the other end is open. Have one 6” passive intake with a piece of carbon filter on it. I have negative pressure but the tent isn’t in risk of collapsing. I am thinking of adding a second passive intake. Temps never get above 77 at canopy level. 4x4x6.5 600w mh/hps. If you wanted to add a carbon filter just attach through ducting on other end of tube.

I have my set up in a garage and surrounded by neighbors lol. Good to hear I should be okay with a passive intake. I may just do what your doing up until flower then worry about the smell. I honestly don’t feel like spending cash on ducting ,in-line fans or a carbon filter but I know it is inevitable for me. Thanks !!

Definitely exhaust from your light out. I don't have an inline fan blowing air in just a box fan blowing air into the tent. And an oscillating fan inside to circulate air. I could see if it was really hot but not necessary with that wattage. Filters are a good idea but unless it's super hot you don't need an extra inline fan. My temps are around 80 with 5x7x7 1000 watt and 4 inch exhaust. Leaving my six inch intake open. Going to get another fan for the inside to get better circulation but summer isn't here yet and don't know if I'll have to cool it down that much for another inline. If heat is a problem where you live then a portable AC might be a better option to keep temps down. Another inline would just blow in warm air wasting electricity.

Chefbjy Eventually I want to run 1000 , I’m in Cali, so for sure, during summer months I’ll have to run ac then I’ll have to figure out how to run 1k hps and a portable ac with out throwing the breaker but that’s for another grow. I definitely want to exhaust the from the lights. Thanks !

        Update:
There’s been several changes to my grow room, I should now be able to complete a grow through harvest with no smell, all I need is a ph pen. I want to upgrade my ventilation further but for now I have ducting connected to an in-line fan pulling air through the air cooled hood and out of the tent. I now have a 6” carbon filter that I will be exhausting from during flowering.I also bought pure neem oil, DE food grade, yellow fly traps, great white mycos, an 8” non oscillating fan for circulation. I will now focus on getting a veg tent to fit my 4ft 4 bulb T5 and some additional organic derived nutrients to add to my arsenal.

My friend gave me 4 master kush plants thet are ready to be flowered I will practice taking clones but the main thing is that I need to transplant ASAP they’re rootbound and fed with synth nutes that I don’t have. I will start another thread for these as I may need help.
I have moved 4 of my Cherry Cookie babies under the t5 on a table in the garage exposed I’m not worried though, 2 smaller ones under the makeshift cfl light and 1 with the 4 Og Master kush plants.

In the pics The powdery stuff is DE that I heavily sprinkled as a dressing the day after feeding just Incase fungus gnats come out.

I topped two of the cherry Cookies to start forming the base for the manifold and took some clones. The rest of the cherry Cookies are looking good . I’ve been feeding with every watering now at full strength with GO nutes with very little runoff. i also added blackstrap molasses and great white to my feeding. I’m going to lay off of the feeding and start alternating with water. If anyone has any advice on feeding/watering with GO box nutrients please feel free to chime in.

The clone taken from the top , if I were to let it grow to 6 nodes and top to 3 like building a manifold base, will that clone be symmetrical ? It seems as if though it should . It make sense aslong as it’s taken from the top and not a side shoot or leaf. I know at one point symmetry is lost but is there a way to keep it in clones ?

Don’t know if this is something but it looks like it may be turning into something. Yellowing around the veins and darker in the middle on both vertical fan leaves; it looks a tad bit like a grid to me. The other leaves underneath are fine. The new growth coming in looks neon too I don’t remember new growth looking so bright .
Since I’ve been feeding with every watering it may be that , I doubt it’s ph as I’ve been using the same RO water, no other plants are exhibiting the yellow leaves .
