    Need opinions for LSTing

Hey all, this is my lsd from barneys farm. Shes about one month old, and i was wondering if its too late to start LSTing her? I topped about a week ago. Measured at exactly 1 foot.

Doesn't look too late to me. I'd start training her right away.

Definitely not too late. You could even top her to force more side branching, however that would set her back a few weeks.

Hey canyon grower, topped her about a week ago.

Well she is looking very healthy. Go ahead and do some lst, but dont bend branches down all at once. Do it gradually over the course of several days. In other words, learn from my mistake!

Alright cool! If you dont mind me asking, what happened when you bent all stems down at once? Also, do i start with the main stem?

        #6
They tended to break or split at the main stem. If you bend them down a little at a time and give them a day to adjust you will have fewer problems. Good luck !

I have plants 39 days from seed. Topped 9 days ago and have pulled the new main colas down today. Noticed within hours she was going back up towards the light. These things are incredibly resilient. Another 9 days or so I go to flowering.

Wow shiek those are beauts! I topped mine about a week ago, so im waiting for the branches to grow longer. So for my side branches, do i tie them down as well?

You tie them all down H4, you want a flat canopy, so they will all grow up the same size, where they can share the light evenly.

So i lst'd the side branches, but im noticing alot of these big fan leaves are blocking light, any suggestions as too what i should do with them?(see pic #1) Also, should i bend the main stem down as well?(see pic #2)

You remove the leaves blocking bud sites, an you should have already bent the main stem down, but you can still do it now if she is still flexible an tender, you want to bend the main stem a little over 90 degrees, in 2-3 days all of the stems will be pointing up and grow ing toward the light, that's what you want them to do.
If you bend the main stem over move it back an forth several times first to limber it up before you bend it, then after its lumbered up , then just bend it an tie it down so it can't move ,you need to be very gentle doing it.
Make sure it is limbered up real good first, it's not hard to do at all. Good Luck H4

H4 have one plant that I called the runt, had 4 giant leaves, all bigger than my hand. The plant was putting all its growth in these leaves and the main stem, which is very thick. I noticed that growth under these leaves were discolored and limp. Pulled 2 of the giants off and the undergrowth took off. 5 days later I pulled the other 2 and the plant really started taking off. It’s still the runt but is stocky and developing many bud sites. Thought I was going to get rid of it but now it might just produce. Will see. Good luck on the grow!

It was so small i actually made a topic here on the forum asking if i should keep or scrap her😅 everyone recommended i keep her so i did, having high hopes for her. And hopefully yours does well. Whwn you get some pics you gotta show me!

There's something called 4-way LST. And it's talked about in this thread about ScroG and LST for increased yield for those of us growing in tents etc.
Just scroll down to about last part of the first half of the page, and you can read it all there. I'm planning on doing this with my grow, and for what I've learned, this method seams really effective.
I'm also planning on doing some ScroG, but I don't think you have to do that, and that it will be enough for most people to "just" LST.

Check it out! And good luck!

Glad I could help! I'm far from a seasoned grower myself, but stuff that interest me tend to stick to my brain like glue. So I have my moments hehe!
And thank you sir! I ended up re-potting the little one today. Hope she will be okay.

That's exactly how you do it H4, good job, you have to do it every 2-3 days, your goal is to keep the short branches the same as the tall branches, all the same height, you will have the branches on the bottom growing up toward the light making new colas, that's what you want. Keep every branch the same height. You will have as many colas as topping or manifolds, if you do it right.

Wooowie, it always hurts me too. I feel like a barbarian. The good news is they come out stronger in the end. Wait till you harvest her. That always gets me the worst of all.

H4john, your doing a fine job.
couple of things that keep me sane when I LST my plants is
          1) at the end of a grow the bottom 1/3 has been removed or is not much for size. That foilage you remove wouldn't be there at the end of your grow anyhow.
          2) it's like a race, someone wants to be the winner. If you keep all your Topps level like a table to each other they all win.
          3) bend a little on the same branch 2-3 days in a row to achieve a flatter branch, just ease them down especially if they haven't done it before or there large .
          4) if (when)you break something don't panic, just support it a let it rest it will heal.
          Good luck

H4john I have two lights in my 2x4x5. A Morsen 600W and a Viparspectra 300W. Morsen was a mistake I made thinking I could use just the single LED. realized early on I needed another. Both lights pull approximately 140W actual power. Always thought you needed those “solar panels” especially in Veg but it actually put its energy into those leaves. I do have a large sturdy stem on the plant. Once those leaves came off, the plant blew up!
