For hydro growers using them for res chenges, what pumps work for you? I'm interested in seeing what different setups I can incorporate into my DWC buckets. My girl is getting so big it's getting really difficult picking her up out of the bucket every time. I feel like I've asked this question before, but that's a little fuzzy. A recap and review on different methods won't hurt though!

Water transfer pumps

I use a MaxiJet 500 that just sits in the reservoir with a pipe leading out to a Hozelock clip. When I need to empty the res I just attach a hose and turn on the pump. I wanted a permanent solution rather than using a transfer pump like "Battery Operated Water Pump (482)-transfer Any Liquid In Minutes. Remove Flood Water" but I suspect I've over engineered things a bit.
It works OK but:- Having a pump in the reservoir results in roots growing around it. I'll be trying out a new root containment method in my next grow, I'll feed back my results to the community when I have them.
- The pump didn't work inline, by this I mean the pump had to be in the water itself, I couldn't have a tube running from the pump to the res and another running from the pump to waste water.

I definitely have my own plans to solve my problem which I will document and post when I free up one of my buckets being used. I'm just trying to get inspiration and fresh perspective.
My plan involves drilling a hole directly into the top of the bucket lid and inserting a length of tube or PVC with a threaded attachment permanently mounted to the lid. The threaded adapter will be used to attach your standard garden hose leading to the water transfer pump. The pump will also be used to put fresh nutrient water into the bucket the same way it is pumped out. When the pump isn't being used the hole is covered using a fitted cap on the lid.
Modification shouldn't be too hard or take long. I would like to think this will be ideal for me, as I don't ever plan on growing more than 2 plants in my tent at a time. I won't ever have to move the plants or disturb them. I will probably add a second larger access cap to easily check pH and ppm with a turkey baster or something lol.

I really don't like the MJ setup I've got , I want as little in the reservoir as possible as my setup is a 4x OxyPot system. Hence why I want to figure out a root management system, this last grow had 2x males that needed removing, and OF COURSE they occupied the two rear sites making removal a nightmare. I had over vegetated them due to waiting on the warranty return of my broken KIND 750.

Ha ha, I really like the look of those, unfortunately I just don't have the space or dosh for one.

That northern tool looked better then some cheap ones, I don't like paying cheap and it breaks in a year. MoreN push yourself to buy some fem seeds and the auto fem look good also.

Nice to meet you too Karlee,
I've done a few feminized grows (AK48 + Wonder Woman) and they were great. Mainlined in the original NugBuckets style 2x at a time in a low pressure aeroponics setup under the K750. The low pressure aero was a pain to clean after the first use and became unreliable after the fourth grow, it had to go and I wanted a simple base to build upon, hence the 4x OxyPot.
This current grow is actually my first non-fem grow, I wanted some 'Grand Daddy Purp' and they aren't available in fem. I'll be doing some fem-auto's soon but I'm going to mainline them using Nebula's new single top technique, I'm hoping cutting them once gives them ample time to still veg before they flower.
Because I have plants growing directly in a single large reservoir Pankace's question was quite relevant for me. I don't feel the MJ was the best way to solve the issue, I thought it would work inline but it has to be submerged. I'm still looking for something better here in the UK, I'll report back when I find it =)

I also use a battery operated water transfer pump It's great if you've only got a few small reservoirs. The more industrial water pumps can feel like overkill for 5 gallons of water at a time But those industrial ones are great if you have a lot of water to move!
