Newbie Trying To Getting Set Up

Hello, total newbie here, trying to sort through hundreds of pages of info. I am growing Northern Lights Indoors. I already have my seeds (FEM). I have started a list of what I will need to purchase. Please advise, add, subtract or suggest.

My space will accommodate a 4X3X7 Grow Tent

    I chose this light - https://www.amazon.com/VIPARSPECTRA-...a1c4d4e15c3b6d

Question about light. Do I still need a fan to keep cool and steady airflow?

Pots & Soil & Nutrients, Rapid Rooters

    Thermometer, Hydrometer, Carbon Filter

    #2
Definitely need air movement in the tent.

So, a 6" fan to vent out of the tent will do?

Plenty big enough - that's what I use. I have mine off for 30 minutes, then on for 15.

Be more specific with what your getting.

Are you wanting to add your own nutrients??? Or use kind soil and you won't have to add nutrients.

I'm going to attatch pics of all the items I've bought over the last 2-3 months. Id highly recommend buying them all even though you may think you don't need it. For example the parafilm and clonex, in case you break a stem. Better than using duct tape. The ph meter is by far the most important thing I bought. The neem oil and sticky traps, you may not get a bug problem but if you do, do you really want wait a day or two until you can get it taken care of??? That's why I recommend buying everything just so you're prepared if anything does happens. Here's my list

Lemonhead i wouldn't recommend my light over the one you had posted. I was just giving you my shopping list as a reference, I don't know enough about LEDs as I have never used one or really done enough reasearch into them.

Evening Lemonhead , looks like your getting all lined up.
I was just wanting to let you know if you didn't already know that the Led light you picked out would be alot better on heat and electricity than the hps-mh, lights, of course you could dim them if you wanted. And about your soil if you on your first grow wanted the easiest to use is KindSoil, all you need is PHed water, and that's it, that KindSoil is some awesome stuff. Everything nutrient wise is already added, there is no way to mess up unless you overwater.Great stuff for a first grow, next time if you want to add your own nutrients you couldtry something that's a little harder if you want to ,like coco or something. But KindSoil is great stuff for first grows. Good Luck

Well good deal Lemonhead, I didn't see where you were using KindSoil, but it's no way not to have a great harvest with KindSoil, only way is to overwater, so don't do that and you will have a great crop. I love it, and will be watching your grow the whole time if you don't mind.
        Happy Growing Lemonhead
PS- something about your name, Lemonhead, makes me think about this old local band called "BlindMelon" that used to play around here all the time, don't know why though.

I remember Blind Melon ... Good Band!

Yes, I will keep you posted on my grow. Just finished the rest of my order on supplies and should be ready to roll soon.

More questions. .. Does KindSoil stand on its own or do I need to add Coco Loco? Do I need to use distilled water? Can I use rapid rooters in the KindSoil?

      #8
Hey Lemonhead, you put the KindSoil in the bottom half ,and whatever ever your used to growing with in the top half, I was using FFOF on top but I'm not using that anymore, but cocoloco would be fine, matter of fact that's what Mr Kind recommends , don't mix it though, just put the KindSoil on the bottom and coco-loco on top ,and try not to ever water to runoff, if you do you will lose some of the good stuff in the KindSoil. All you need is water out of your house that has been sitting for a day or two and make sure you get your PH, between 6.0 -7.0, my plants really took of when I had my water at 6.3-6.4.ph. So try to keep it right in that range. 6.3.-6.5 an don't overwater and you will have grown you some fine bud in no time at all.
Your gonna love that KindSoil. Main thing don't overwater. Good Luck.
yes BlindMelon was a real good band. A couple of the members lived close by.
I forgot ,yes you can use those rapid rooters. And also you don't need any nutrients.

Morning , Yeah that's it, that's the only one that Mr.Kind says to use.
You don't need that much though, get both the UP, and the Down, your probably only gonna use the Down, but you will have both just in case.
Get the smaller sizes on Amazon, less expensive, and when you use it it only takes very little.
Nebula has lots of good information on GWE, even videos on how to adjust your water PH. It's real easy after you do it a time or two. But it's very important to have it right using KindSoil.
Glad to hear your getting all your grow stuff in. The last plant i grew on here a couple of months ago was also a Northern Lights auto from Nirvana and she grew up to be a fine plant, with lots of big buds that will get you high as hell to .trying to put a picture of her on here but I ain't doing something right, I started hitting the pipe to early this morning probably the reason.

Glad to hear you are feeling good this morning ... I did order both UP and down and I am using distilled water because my water source is chlorinated. I read to let it sit overnight and then test it, yes? I got the fan exhaust carbon filter combo today. I still need a small fan for the bottom of the tent to bring in fresh air, right?

Hey Brother, it ain't just the morning, I feel real good all 24 hours.
Since I been growing my own feel good medine, I ain't bought any of that dogsh-t from the peddlers in years, and don't plan on ever buying any more.
That's like your used to drinking some fine wine, and all you can get is Thunderbird.

If you live close to walmart, they got carbon filtered water that's already just right, that's what I use lots of time.
He told me to let it sit a day or two if your using tap water and it would be fine, I haven't had any problems with chlorine or cloramine, ain't got it spelled right I know. I also use a cheap aquarium pump to help get rid of the clorine.
Glad to hear your about ready, your gonna love growing your own, it's sure lots better than what the peddlers try to sell you.

It's a matter of personal preference on the best way to germinate the seeds. But all the most popular germination methods will work well. If you're already following the Kind soil system, it may be easier to follow all their instructions. One thing I've learned with Kind soil is you typically don't want to water so much that you're getting a lot of runoff, as extra runoff water will carry away extra nutrients you want to last.

Kind soil has great info here with more instructions on the best way to use their soil. I know growers get really great results simply by following their steps.

As far as how long to keep the plant in the vegetative stage, a good rule of thumb is to wait until the plant is about half the final desired height as cannabis plants double in height (on average) after the switch to 12/12. More on the vegetative stage here.
