    Done the LST, now what??

After the LST we give these things, how many are enough bud sites?? Never thought about it before until now!

Probably because previous grow was auto.

All depends on your height of grow space...

Although a funny question to start that's a good question. Is there a point where the overall potential of the plant is compromised? As in fewer colas/bigger buds..more colas smaller buds. I'm ok with smaller buds as long as they are sound. Is there a premium ratio that includes pot size?
      interesting thought sonny..thanks

Yeah Tika, I've been thinking I have a 80" height limit so with light fixture clearance above the plants I'm limited to how tAll the plant should be when it goes in there, figurine it will double in height. But how many buds is the ideal amount?

As many as you can get in your veg time frame...

        I go for broke...

It depends on so many variables that this becomes a thesis in its own right.

      In my experience:

Indoor plants using the manifold method tend to benefit most from 8 colas.

Indoor plants using SoG or ScrOG tend to do best with 8 - 16 colas.

Out door plants benefit from as many colas as the plant can make.

The limit of what the plant can produce is mostly based on the light available to it. If there is more light than the plant can make use of then Co2 can be used to boost the yield.

The number of colas one uses is mostly for trying to create a flat canopy under the lights and reduce the christmas tree shape.

All my plants are in a gallon and half pots and killing it.
the two I just harvested still had plenty of room in there.

Although I did not have my regular root wizard when I started them...or they would of been too small of pots.

I believe this is only true because you use coco though. Soil needs more room, I believe.

          Why I wonder...what's the theory

        #7
There's definitely going to be a tradeoff. You have to find the happy medium that works for you. The balance in between what the plant can sustain and more bud sites. You have to factor in environment and strain too.

I sometimes lose perspective. This is a weed after all. It's the journey trying to figure out how to dial in the grow that is so alluring to me.

        I think I over-medicated a bit...

I always heard that 8 was the magic number.

I think the magic number depends on the grower, to an extent. But 8 mains is a great place to start.

I just want to warn people, the bigger the buds, the higher the chance of bud rot. If you can't control your humidity late in flower, grow more colas and smaller buds.

These plants are blue dream, in 5 gal with pro mix. They are 8 weeks from sprouting, I have been LST on them since I first could and there are a lot of bud sites, I don't know exactly, I only have 10 fingers and there's way more than that! .....LMAO

Just a thought, isn't it better to get as many top bud sites as possible then deal with it as they grow, you can take away but not add
The more I know, the better I grow.

I feel like I've gotten the best results by giving each individual cola about 2-3 inches of space to itself as part of a wide, flat canopy.

This lets each cola get plenty of light and air, while still leaving room to expand. So I think the max number of colas could be very different based on the number of plants and the area of the space.

I do agree with MoreNurgzPlz that indoor manifolded plants seem to produce really well with around 8 or possibly 10 main colas in the end. If you want more than that I feel like you'll get better results with more plants than trying to get a manifolded plant to make a whole lot more colas

Interesting question Sonny! I'll be posting pics soon of my auto that has way more than eight bud sites as it is a couple weeks into flower...the sites are now starting to grow up and out, so I'm curious at how big each will finally get I'm surrounding every square inch with CFLS as close as possible. I'm not opposed to many smaller buds...time will tell! 😊

You will oppose it when it comes time to trim...

The main reason I'd like to manifold some day would be for ease of trimming.

Understandable Nugs for others with greater production, but for me and my one plant harvest, it is a joy to spend the time trimming! 🌱
