Hello there fellow growers. I'm going to start growing my own weed for the first time (first time I ever grew anything) and am wondering if the soil I have in my backyard will suffice or not. I live in an island in the middle of the Atlantic, and my parents have grown a lot of veggies and even strawberries in our backyard, so would that soil be any good? Will I even need any nutrients for it? I can post pictures of the soil later, if those will help in any way

Well, the true answer is that we have no idea if that soil will work or not. My 'guess' is that if you can grow outside in the soil, I may work well, because the roots can seek out nutrients that it needs in a unlimited manor. However, if you dig up a pot of that soil and bring it indoors to grow, I would expect the cannabis plant to use up all the nutrients in veg and then fail in the flowering stage unless you add nutrients.completed 7 grows
what I have learned so far:
environment maters more than nutrients
at least a dab of nutrients in every watering
effective flushing before harvest is critical to quality

Morning weedondorf unless your on Gilligans Island there has got to be some place to buy a little soil ,,huh. I'm growing a plant right now in Ms.Delta soil and I ain't using nothin but water. Your parents soil might be ok too, don't that though. If that's all you got try it. Plenty of folks on GWE to help you if you need any help. Good Luck and welcome to GWE.Cfls for a week or two

There is many symptoms for nute deficiency, You can probably get away with just the soil in the backyard, if you leave it in the backyard, if you try to put it in a pot and bring it inside to use indoor it will not work, the plant will use all the nutes from the soil well before the flowering stage. if you plant it outside you can get away with not using any extra nutrients . are you planning on doing your grow inside or outside.?

Use the soil in your parents garden. Just tell them you're growing a new brand of tomatoes. Add some crysanthemum flowers (the plants that grow in soil) to keep pests away.. Never hurts to try, hey maybe your parents are a little more liberal than you think.3 X 3 gorilla. Promix soil . Green Planet Nutes

as a noob myself i say keep it simple stupid. get some potting soil and some 5 gallon buckets, drill some holes in the bottom for drainage. dirt from your yard may have bugs in it that you don't see right away that could be pests. i sprout mine in a wet paper towel just like back in school, put them in small pots for about a month and move them up to the buckets. as far as nutrients don't sweat them now, but if you do wanna sweat them get some for vegetative and some for flowering and follow the directions. mine only takes 1/2 teaspoon per gallon, then i water from the gallon as per instructions. once you get your first grow over with you'll be ready to take it to the next steps. use the web to diagnose every spot speck or nearly-microscopic bug until you feel like you can call yourself a grower.
