Does anyone have any experience with making tinctures using alcohol (like Everclear), but without decarbing or using heat to evaporate the alcohol? I tried this recently, mainly to see if I could extract the THCA and CBDA before they were converted to THC and CBD (which is supposed to be what happens when decarbing). I let the alcohol evaporate without adding heat after the extraction., leaving just the extracted residue. I heard from a knowledgeable tincture maker that there are very beneficial effects for THCA and CBDA (discoveries are just being made) maybe even greater than what you get with THC and CBD. Not too sure of what I created, but it does seem to have a unique effect when I ingested it. Not a strong stoned, but a pleasant feeling of well being. I would love to get more info on this from anyone out there. Thanks!

The proof is in the pudding - It is working for you. I started a thread about Thin Layer Chromatography where you can actually test at home for the content of your tincture but it ain't cheap and I am

I just wrote this whole blab on tinctures and lost it. I really am not good at efficiently posting...
anyway: decor your ground bud first in oven proof dish wrapped twice in aluminum..240 deg for 40 to 60 minutes (chief is less time). remove from oven, cool then put in freezer where you will also have your chilling' 151 Bacardi Rum or 190 proof EverClear. once chilled, put ground, de-carbed but into mason jar and then pour your alcohol over it. Shake return to freeze ...shake for at least 11 days as often as you can. First shake should be about 5 minutes. The longer you leave it there the stronger it will be. Finally strain through cheesecloth or coffee filters into a opaque or brown glass bottle and keep in fridge or freezer.

Tika use your word processor then cut and paste especially on long posts. I am a terrible typist thank goodness for word.
I think you missed the part about Rockman wanting high THCA and CBDA, decarboxylating will convert those

Thanks for the tincture recipe...I've seen many variations on this online, and have done this successfully. What I was questioning was doing an alcohol extraction without decarbing (heating) so as to preserve the acid forms (THCA and CBDA).

I thought when you eat thc or thca, both are converted into 11-hydroxy-thc by your liver. But when you smoke, thca converts into thc which is the only psychoactive ingredient when inhaled. I'm probably way off here. I've listened to too many podcasts and videos. Probably doesn't help I'm usually medicated when I hear them...

Here is someones recipe-similar in terms of how to I just let it decor longer (i don't use old bud but it is cured well)What You'll Need
Herb Grinder or Food Processor
1 Quart bowl
Mesh strainer
Cheese cloth
Kitchen scale
Quart canning jar with lid
Dark tint tincture bottles with droppers
Paper coffee filters
1 ounce of buds or stemless shake per quart of alcohol
The highest proof alcohol you can get your hands on. It should be at least 90 proof, though 151 or Everclear is preferable.
Derek Butt's Small Batch Preview Method
This method is fast—tinctures can be produced in as little as an hour—and uses only small amounts of precursor but comes at the expense of potency. Still, it's a great way to go if you want to try tinctures but don't want to gamble an ounce of bud on it.
Thoroughly dry and grind 4 grams of bud and/or trimmings.
Bake the plant matter at 240 degrees in an oven-safe dish for 20-30 minutes to decarboxylate it.
Submerge the plant matter in 2 ounces of high-proof alcohol, stir, and cover tightly so that the evaporating alcohol cannot escape.
Let sit 2 - 3 hours in a cool, dark spot. The longer it sits, the more potent it becomes. However, the longer it sits, the more chlorophyll it will also draw out which turns the tincture a greenish hue.
Stir the brew again, then funnel through a double-thick layer of cheese cloth, collecting the liquid tincture in a receptacle.
Pour the liquid through the cheesecloth a second time, again capturing it in a vessel for later consumption. Be sure to wring out the cheesecloth. Bottle the tincture in opaque (or at least brown or blue tinted) bottles as soon as possible to avoid exposing it to light.
