    Net cup rupture

New grower. Started out in one of those overpriced online grow boxes but upgraded to a tent. I didn't have a hole saw so I had to cut the holes for the net cups with box cutters, so they weren't exactly perfect. Anyway, it was too late to move the plants into bigger cups so I just kept growing and now the cup has ruptured. On top of that, because the holes weren't perfect, anytime I tie my plants down it pulls it straight into the res. I'm already 1 week into flower and I've got everything set up for the next grow. I just need any suggestions to get me through to harvest. Thanks.

By ruptured, you mean the net pot has ripped down below? If that is the case, you will need to try to tie it back together or you risk your grow media splitting the thing and falling into your reservoir, along with your plant! You could use plant ties or even small zip ties to connect it back together. Really...if you know how to sew you could sew it back together but it won't be as strong as the other two options. As for the holes on the top, the only real way to fix that would be to cut some plastic in a circle, then cut it in half (like a half donut) and you could wedge under the net pot lip that would maybe act as a washer.

Yeah the pot is pretty much hanging on by a thread, but I don't think I can tie it back together without damaging the roots. I took a bunch of pictures but they're not uploading, so I'll take more when the lights turn on. So I guess, until I can upload pics, my question is; is there an easy way to keep the plant secure in the res if I had to extract the cup?

Woah...that is a first! The plant over grew the net pot?! As for securing it to the res, all you could really do is tie some plant ties above the hole and below the hole around the plant kind of like a candy wrapper to make something that can hold it in place. That is my thought on it.

Yeah I ended up going with your suggestion with the plant ties. Probably gonna extract the cup and use some extra support tonight. Yeah they did. It happened almost overnight. I saw that they were getting a little bit, but didn't see the rip until I switched it to flower.

I would cut the net pot off and just try to secure your plant at the same height it has been growing if you can. Was that a 2 inch net pot?

Yeah that's what I'm trying out now. Yeah it was a 2 inch pot. I have 3.75 but I didn't get them until they were well rooted in the 2 inch.

I use 3 3/4 inch net pots and I have had it happen several times but I knew it was coming and already had some shims on top of the reservoir under some lower branches so it didn't fall through. You might be able to tie some strings to the lower branches and tie it up. Probably the more places that you support it the better.

That's a big ass plant if that net pot is 3.75in! Now you have me scared for mine! That is what I am using and my plants are a month old and huge!

I had thought of using supports under the branches, but thought it wouldn't work out. I'll definitely try that out tonight. What do you use to hold them up?

I just usually use whatever will fit in the gaps. I do put a little foam padding in between the branch and whatever I use. If you look at gwe newsletter 266 I think you can see some of the branches propped up in those pictures.

Thanks. It was a nirvana aurora indica. She was 4 1/2 foot tall at that tallest cola with about a 28 x 65 inch canopy.
