Air Conditioner drain water for DWC

    Hello Guys,

Quick question, is it ok to use the drained condensed water from AC machine on my DWC reservoir? Is it sterile enough or it is contaminated somehow by the machine?

    Thanks!

From a properly functioning A/C unit, the condensed water is pretty similar to rain water. Of course it's possible that the A/C unit is contaminating the water, e.g. with bacteria if the water accumulates in the unit before draining. Take a sample and let it set in a clear glass inside for a day or two and see it looks/smells pure. Or have it analyzed. I assume you're asking because you live somewhere with drought - if water were cheap and plentiful, I probably wouldn't chance anything with my grow...

I agree with D-TrainCA, I thought of doing that with the water from my dehumidifier (no need for air conditioner here). I thought the water would be neutral but when I tested it the PH was 5.0_ the water I put in was tap water with a PH of 7.5. Sometimes I have to dump the tank every day or two. Always the same. Can't figure out why so I decided not to use it. Using tap water and PH down was best for me.

Lots of nasty shit grows in the dark wet pan that catches that water. Don't infect your plants to save a pint of water. Or boil it first.

AC in large buildings have been known to grow Legionella (the bacterial cause of Legionaire's disease) and spread it to the occupants of the building.

Haven't tried this but I'd be concerned about introducing mold.

My real concern is if it is an actual ac unit( vs a swamp cooler) is the chance of Freon getting in the water, while its is cool, freon is dangerous for humans and I can't imagine a benefit for our precious ladies.
