    ph up

how much ph up can I use
    town water 4.5
    Rain water 5,5 last rain
Nutes = gh trio + cal mag
I add nutes then it takes 20+ tbsp of up to get to 6.5
when I add ph up water clouds until stirred
Should I be buying gallons of this shtuff???
Plants still happy so I'm happy... but is this normal?

I use gh trio with cal mag tap water is high like 8.5-9.0 and after mixing I only use two ml of pH down to bring it 6.0 so tht dosent sound normal to me it must be the water or maby u got a bad bottle of pH up if thts not the case I guess the best thing u could do is find out whts cheaper the gallons of water or gallons of pH down

I have the opposite problem. My water is very basic. I use reverse osmosis water which made the pH more acidic - the exact direction I needed to go. I'm not sure if reverse osmosis will make your water less acidic, but it will remove dissolved solids and give you more of a "blank canvas" as a starting point for pH adjustment. My initial investment for a RO filter was apx $60 USD so I save tons of cash by not buying distilled water. Its just not practical for me to go buy water every few days cuz I hate going to the grocery store! I use Advanced Nutrients pH perfect line and during my water changes the pH is always apx. 5.4. I do have fluctuation, but I check it everyday. The pH has never gone above 6.3 for either of my plants. I have lost a plant for not monitoring the pH everyday (the pH went extremely basic and put the plant in nutrient lock). BTW I'm on my first grow so not an expert by any means, however, I seem to be having good results monitoring, correcting and getting great feedback from the GWE community!

Hello Georges ,I agree with St.Buds ,I use Earth Juice Crystals and it takes very little to adjust the water. Yours could be bad, have you had it long?

Does the clouding in my water jug mean anything?

If your bottle of pH Up was contaminated it definitely could be weakened almost non usable check this stuff out it is bad ass. No more than a drop or two.

Here is a direct quote from the GWE site on pH
"For PH UP - PH Up is not potent stuff! It actually has a very weak effect. Compared to PH Down you will need to add much more PH Up to adjust the pH by the same amount. With PH Up, depending on how hard your water is you need to add 2-4mL/gallon of water to raise the pH 1 point. In imperial measurements that's 0.4-0.8tsp/gallon."
Even still it sounds like you are adding a lot more than that. Are you sure your pH meter is correct. A pH of 4.5 for town water is REALLY low. That is as acidic as tomato juice. Town water that acidic would leech all sorts of chemicals out of the pipes . Most municipalities in the US keep the pH above 7 for that reason. The normal range for pH in surface water systems is 6.5 to 8.5, and the pH range for groundwater systems is between 6 to 8.5.

If that's the case you better buy it by the drum, I'm just kidding . But Georges is add tablespoons, just check your water without nutes I'm thinking you got bad stuff, could be wrong , have been plenty of times before. Good luck or as Newf said bad meter.

I just got done with the opposite problem. 30 ML to take it from 7 to a little under 6. Switched to RO water, nutes put it perfect. First time with RO water I added a capfull of Down and it dropped to low 4's lol.

Armor Si will raise ph. You can kill 2 birds with one stone. And it doesn't take much to move ph quick.

🌱 Good tip! I've found that any Silica supplement seems to raise the pH. 🌱

Howdy georges, I certainly hope that You are NOT DRINKING the city water! At that level (acidic 4.5 pH) it is a wonder that the plumbing has not been dissolved away! As well, the rain water is way too acidic to use. The city water that I use tests at 6.75 to 7.25 pH. I use the GH dry pH up (after all of the nutrients are in) and only use 3/8 to 1/2 tsp per gallon to bring the solution to around 6.0.
Another thing, are You using a pH meter? I use dual panel test strips, Your meter may have gone bad, or the probe needs to be cleaned or replaced. That is why I use test strips, no calibration, batteries, and automatically compensates for the temperature.
              Good luck with Your grow.

Like DW2 said he uses strips , I do too,but I also use a meter cause I use molasses at least once a month an it changes the color of the water. But like DW2 says you got meter problems or your PH up is bad. Water at my house is 7.8 and all it takes of the Earth Juice Crystals is a few specks to change it either up or down. Best of luck sure hope you get it fixed.

I use well water and Ph up if watering, takes not much. I use Ph down if feeding and it takes me between 10 and 20 ml per gallon to shift from rust brown to a nice green. I care not about ppm. If I think I need a flush I use bottles of pure drinking water until I'm exhausted or reach 1/5-1/1 runoff. My system is a system of no systems.
