    Thin Layer Chromatography

Has anyone used TLC? What brand did you use? Elaborate on how well you think it did. I would like to try this but it is pretty pricey.

If you do not know what I am talking about go to the attached site and read up. This is not the only site out there but it is one I like.
Cannalytics Supply's THC Test Kit is accurate, easy to use and provides high quality THC Test Kits and for cannabis products.

I'm a very very new grower, but I have worked for a very large chemical company in the past. I have worked in their analytical chemistry department and have done quite a bit of TLC. What is your goal? If you are considering TLC for a quick analysis, then TLC is a reasonable approach. If you are considering TLC to separate and collect the purest form of TLC, cannabinoids, etc. for use afterwards, I would not recommend it. Extracting your desired product from TLC silica gel is normally not something you can do easily at home. You need the correct solvents. Different compounds require different solvents (usually some type of organic solvent) and preferably a hood vent to draw the solvent fumes up and out through a proper ventilation system. You don't want organic solvents dumped into the air. They aren't good for the atmosphere and they have a very noticeable smell. The smell of the solvents could bring you some very unwanted attention. Not to mention you need to properly dispose of the used solvents. So again, if you just want to test the composition of what you have, TLC is a reasonable way to go. Just follow the directions closely. Hope this helps.

      Hi Herbs n Stuff:

I have a medical reason for my grow and would like an idea of the makeup of the meds I am growing; my THC/CBD versus the advertised profile.

Yes, I am aware of the fumes from the chloroform solution but I would be using a very small amount and can vent my work area well. No huffing that shit!

          Hi Mañ'O'Green,

I'm growing for medical reasons also. I've had 2 back surgeries and still have pain. Hopefully, I'll get some relief without needing to take a lot of over the counter pain and prescription medicines. Now you have me thinking that I should give it a try. The interesting thing is, I didn't think of TLC even though I worked with it a lot in the past. Being a new grower I've been too consumed with just the basics. The good thing about TLC, is you will get a good idea of the relative amounts of
cannabinoids, THC, etc. E.g., will you have more CBD's vs TLC.
