Would you sacrifice this future bud?

Hi! Just curious about your defol techniques...

The defol tutorial advises us to trim bud sites that are lower and spaced far apart. What would you do with the little guy I'm pointing to? The plant is four weeks old. Thank you!

do not remove bud sites !! You remove the leaves that are covering the bud sites. So they have access to light.

      But Nebula says...

"In order to create main colas that get fat and dense, you want to remove smaller bud sites so they don’t steal the energy from your main buds. To do this, you should remove undeveloped colas/growth tips that are not going to help you."
"First start by removing any tiny growth tips on the lower part of stems that will never be able to reach the light anyway. These will only create wispy buds at best, and you don’t want these tiny buds to steal from your main buds."

Controversial defoliation can increase your yields dramatically indoors... but removing leaves is for advanced growers only! When done wrong, defoliation can kill your plants!

Thanks for input, bee9e. I was inclined to leave it alone, but wanted to know more.

If you can keep enough light to it keep it. If not it should go so the plant will focus on productive bud sites.

i think i see the misunderstanding, you seem to be on vegetative stage so it is not time to remove growtips, like others said it is time to remove big fan leaves, topping and training the plant in order to create several colas, 3 weeks after the switch into flowering its the time to remove lower budsites under the canopy and big fan leaves from the top

I see what you're saying. The section I quoted above is actually from Nebula's defoliating tutorial, specifically the "Vegetative State: When to Defoliate" subsection. I would tag her in this thread, but I can't seem to get it to work. Could someone else try it, please?

Nebula has been very busy and probably will take a while for her to chime in. Won't worry too much about it. I think you should pay attention to the plant and understand how it grows. The tutorials are a guide with some proven ways and procedures just to help you plan ahead. But every strain is different and every pheno grows differently so don't try to reduce this down to a recipe you have to experiment that's the best part of growing don't miss out
