HYDRO First grow, need assistance diagnosing

Feminized Papaya from Nirvana in a RDWC. Water kept chilled below 70, using hydrogaurd and GH Flora Trio. Room temps are 70-80 and humidity 45-60%. PH of water is kept between 5.6 through 6.5.
Using Kind LED 300 x2, 23" above canopy.
Are these roots just stained? I've not yet ran into root rot so I am not sure what to look for.
Help would be greatly appreciated. Scared for my ladies. ;(

Howdy Veruc, The roots look good, did You mean that the light is 23 inches above the canopy, You indicated 23 feet (23" = inches, 23' = feet)? If so, lower the lights! (LOL). No really, it looks as if there is a mineral deficiency, probably calcium, copper, or magnesium. Go to the "Diagnosis" section and compare the color and spots of Your leaves to the examples. You may need to add a mineral supplement like CALiMAGic to Your feeding routine.
    Good luck with Your grow.

Thanks for your input! After reading your input I think I will try to add some CALiMAGic in, since I feel like I have been trying everything else under the sun/lamps.
      Thanks again!

Hi Veruc, May I suggest that you give your plants a flush for 48 hours? Everything seems perfect in your setup, but you may have nutrient lockout if you have been overdoing the nutrients.

I had a bout of nute lockout about a month ago, and I flushed the plants over the weekend; the leaves came right back green and healthy. The first dose of nutes after the flush was 25% strength. I truly believe that less is more as far as nutrients are concerned, and I am usually at half the recommended amount of nutes or less.

Using GH Flora Trio, and tap water, starting at 250ish pm (500 scale) in 25 gallons recirculating changed out weekly. Also using hydrogaurd. I picked up a bottle of calmag.

Again what is your feeding schedule. ml/gal It looks like you have nute burn and luckily nute lock.

              25gal true ?

I never trust tap water. It varies day to day and may not have balanced minerals in it and adding calmag to it may compound the problem.

Hydroguard is only a preventative that works best under optimal circumstances.

My strength is at 5ml per gallon of Micro and Bloom, 2.5ml per gallon of Grow. Once I am done flushing I will probably add nutes back in weaker. Its 25 gallons in a 3 cooler (45 quart each) system, two plants and one test reservoir,

I am considering just that as I am moving on to flowering and would like to get a handle on it. Only problem is it takes about 4-5 days to bubble out the chloramines in my water according to my hydro store and I am not sure I want to flush that long. I too stick to half or below manufacturers suggested levels, I am having some trouble dialing in this strains wants.

Make it 5. Chlorine isn't a problem. Chloramine can be. What are your chloramine ppms? Hydro shop guys will sell you anything.

Flushing is a damn good idea. Even a 12 hour flush between res changes.

I found out a month and a half into my first grow that my water authority uses monochloramine, so I started this thread to get some feedback. Since my plants were doing well I decided to just keep doing what I was doing (and the plants are still doing very well!). There are some suggestions in that thread about how to neutralize chloramine, you might want to check it out.

GREAT information!! I looked up my local water info, found out they do use chloramine for disinfectant, so I am going to add ascorbic acid to my water and see if I can determine any difference.

My water comes out at around 7 and at 250-270 ppm. I use GH PH down to get and maintain my levels though my PH generally stays pretty stable.
Its a fun journey learning to produce my own quality medication, I get the feeling most of everone here finds it as rewarding as I do.
