    Alltatup's 3rd Grow - 400W MH/HPS - DWC - Ace Purp Haze x Malawi - 7.6 oz Harvest

    ~~~
    Name of Strain: Ace Seeds Purple Haze x Malawi
    Growing Medium: DWC
    Grow Lights: MH and HPS 400w
    Start Date & Harvest Date: Germination Feb. 28, Harvest July 28-Aug. 6.
    Final Yield: 7.6 oz. & dry ice hash
    ~~~

    I got my third grow on last week. All five of the seeds germinated perfectly.

    I used Root Riots, put them in my germ. tray upside down, opened them gently, inserted seed (no pre-soak), set the germination pad around 84 degrees and left em alone. They started poppin around day 4. I moved them immediately under the lights in my grow box, still in the tray, until I saw roots emerging. I put the Root Riots in pH-balanced rock wool, into net pots, put plain pH-balanced H2O in the res with airstones bubbling away.

    They are growing vigorously: the first to pop is already showing second set of leaves. I am hand-watering with an obsessively mild solution of nutes: I know that this sativa hybrid does not like much nute in her water.

    Second grow is curing nicely: did have a smokeout in the dungeon with some friends over the weekend with some of the Liberty Haze (dried to 61%, cured for around 8 days) and the Goulash Hash I made: combo of the sugar leaves and larfy buds from LH, Chemdawg, Gold Leaf and Pine. Chunk. My homies loved it. I loved it. Being a cannabis outlaw farmer is goooooooooooood.

    My girls are growing nicely; I have them on Advanced Nutes pH Perfect Trio, Voodoo Juice and Hygroguard; two weeks since they germinated. Roots are descending nicely. I raised the water level in the reservoir to get the bubbles poppin closer to net pots, and they seem to like that.

      Week 3: Here are monster and monster 2; the other 2 are smaller, so I'm just showing my big girls. They are growing fast, have lovely WHITE ROOTS in the reservoir (sooooo glad I found my light leaks!!!!). My cooler arrived; waiting on grommets and hobbits to arrive so I can get it going; I really can't wait to quit using frozen water bottles (which don't last long. I bought a coupla 2 liter cheap colas and one of them sprayed all over the damn kitchen when I opened it; talk about sticky icky EVERYWHERE!!)

      I raised the level of water in the reservoir a bit, and added just NA Mirco and Grow--no Bloom. I am making sketches of how I'm going to manifold each plant to fill the box with colas. They are such good girls so far!!!!!!

      Beginning of week 4; they are little sativa monsters, just love em. I'm going to manifold a couple of them after work this afternoon; only the ones with good strong root systems. I'll wait and see for the other two.

        Good for you, Harvester, yeah, I gotta have a game plan for these girls. They have at least 14 weeks in flower and get very, very tall.

        how long you gonna veg? at this point my bloom tent wont be free until veg week 7 or 8. and it only goes longer from there, lol. so im keeping my plan flexible.
        and this may be a long ride for you, but totally worth the reward! and its gonna be a great show!

        I'm not sure. If I manifold at least two of them (good strong roots and growth), then I'll want to see them rebound before I switch. This is all new to me, so I'm takin it one step at a time. See, my growbox is a stealth box, so it's relatively small. I can't allow them to get huge tall.

      #6
      how tall can you allow them to get? just curious.

        I have a 38 inch vertical interior. The tallest plant is 8" now. I decided last night NOT to manifold, since flowering is such a long period already; if I manifold, I'll have to wait at least 3 more weeks to put them in flower. So I'm switching them to 12/12 today. I think they will reach the ceiling anyway; they have a long stretch period.

        have you considered scrogging them? youd only really need to top once and bind them over hard. wont even cost you a week in recovery, and you will have a LOT more control over 4 sativas in that space. if you set the screen 5 or 6 inches off the deck and make them crawl underneath until the end of week 2 of bloom, only thing above the screen will be colas. i only have 39 inches of vertical space because of my light, so anything that finishes over 2 ft needs to be contolled pretty strictly. and if you keep all 4 topping once, you can veg just a week maybe 10 days keeping all growth tips.
        and oh ya, even flipping this early they still gonna try n be tall with a longer stretch period.
        anyway, just throwin ideas maybe kill 2 birds and get more weight with much easier control without sacrificing time much at all. not the prettiest way to grow plants, but it spared me some grey hairs in a very crowded tent with limited height!

      12/12 begun on Saturday and LST: They are growing ecstatically with the chiller humming away and keeping my roots nice and cool. NO MORE ROOT ROT!!!!!

          Man, I am SO HAPPY with the chiller: it's keeping the reservoir temp. around 67. I see all these WHITE ROOTS descending, like little angels coming down from heaven. I'm really not used to seeing WHITE roots!!!

          I didn't realize how much stress the "warm roots" problem was causing me, but I'm floatin on cloud 9 now (and no, I am not high).

        #9
        Starting week 2 12/12, and I see some pre-flowers emerging. I LST'd them during the week; the roots are white and abundant with the new chiller installed. I've never had roots like that before!!! Amazing. Girls growing vigorously, going light on the nutes because they are picky eaters. Only like 14 more weeks to go!!!!!

        And my clematis growing in back yard. I love Spring.

        ive had suspicions about root issues for a good week or so now, and confirmed 3 days ago. my little ones heading that way too. gonna update all that today finally.
        your grow is going so wonderful! and love the clematis, very pretty.

          Thanks, harvester! I got the 1/10 hp active aqua chiller on ebay pretty cheap, but yeah, if you need one for three reservoirs, that's a pretty penny. My reservoir has around 5.5 gallons of water in it; how big are your reservoirs? Because if your res's aren't that big, you have cheaper alternatives to choose from.

          And here's what worked for me BC (before chiller): the almost un-killable bout of root rot I got on second grow was brought to an end with grapefruit seed extract, which is commonly used to kill algae in ponds, etc. I no longer have any faith in H2O2 as far as root rot goes: it's only viable for 24 hours, and the root rot returned, as I've read was the case for many people. I was able to use the GSE with my nutes, which is how I finished out the second grow (up till the flush). I got GSE powder quite cheap on Amazon.

          I was putting 2 liter frozen water bottles in the res up until a week ago, but they didn't last too long. Do you have any way to lower temp in grow room? Depending on so many different factors, we can find different solutions to the hot reservoir problem. My BCNL rep kept telling me to get a window AC for my grow room, but I did not want an AC unit in the window. If you have 3 res's, that may be a cheaper solution for you...???

        #11
        i already have an 8k btu ac going into my bloom tent intake. ok for now but soon i will get the 14k btu. hafta stay portable for now. big res holds 35 gals of nutes. other 2 hold 12.5 gals each. the 2 smaller ones are priority. the tent setup and bigger ac will solve itself im sure.
        can i do both smaller res with one chiller? im not talking capacity. im talking design. i can afford a 1/4hp but only if it is capable of running more than one res at the same time.
        only started researchin chillers recently but not finding anything in descriptions or specs that mention connecting to multiple tanks.

          good morning!
          ive looked at those rdwc setups and i really dig it. just dont have the height to make it work. for the time being anyway. once i hit mid bloom the girls switched up lux requirements n had to raise it quite a bit. my plants are 20" tall and i only have 3" of room left in a 74" tent without bastardizing something.
          i gave up the 1kw metal halide for vegging, but i just cant let go of the 1kw hps in my bloom tent. so until i build a permanent setup, ill just have to muddle thru these 2 grows. rollin it up after that anyway because i will be looking for and obtaining that permanent spot!
          rdwc will be the best production setup ever with the scrog tho. very efficient and convenient. i want it.
          thanks to you both, people like you proving this forum stands out from all the rest! love it, love it

        LST and DEFOLIATION

        I'm a little amazed at the appearance of pre-flowers after one week in 12/12. For some reason I thought it would take longer. The girls are growing so vigorously! No sign of nute burn, good color on leaves.

        This morning I did some defoliation: I snipped and pinched tiny nodes that would never catch up to the big ones. I'm trying to do the LST a little better than the first time (second grow) so the canopy will be more even.

        With these sativas, I don't need to cut as many leaves, as every cola right now has light.

The stretch has been LST'd up to this point; now I'm just watching them grow upward. I think I really like the Advanced Nutrients: the stems are nice and thick, the leaves are a lovely color, no nute burn because I'm staying at around 25% of recommended amount. Everyone has their own preferences, but I will personally vouch for both General Hydroponics and Botanicare! They make great nutrients that I've used to produce great yields, potency and quality!

          One thing I've definitely learned over the years is that your grow method and environment, and especially your dry/cure process, have a far bigger impact on your final results than the brand of nutrients used. I've heard the same thing from other growers as well as from hydro store employees and at cannabis conventions. When growers use a specific brand of nutrients for years and then switch, it's often really difficult to pin down any specific difference. So it really comes down to a matter of personal preference and what seems to work best for your plants in your setup!

          Hi, I'm this is my first grow, and I used advanced nutrients, hobbyists pkg. (cheapest, sensi grow/bloom, voodoo juice, overdrive, big bud) I was happy with results but have nothing to compare against for nutrients. One thing I'll add is that the claim of self ph nutrients by AN, is true. I have really hard water, and high ph for tap water. I did have to add ph down from time to time, but once I did, the ph always levelled off and stayed within range until I added more water. I do plan on trying something different next time, just to have a better comparison. Peace!

          NebulaHaze That is interesting information. I really didn't know, but I believe that all you growers with years of grows under your belts DO know. I'd certainly be glad not to have to pay AN prices in the future!!! It's hard to know what's hype and what's not, especially when I read stuff in 420 magazine and on High Times about how "special" AN is.

ID:	80274 Vigorous growth. Lots of white roots; it's such a treat for me to see happy roots after my second grow. Started week three of 12/12; I have around 5.5 gallons of water in the reservoir, using AN nutrients at 25% of recommended strength. Also added Big Bud, B-52, Bud Ignitor and Bud Candy, all of which ought to give a good start to the buds.
