COCO COIR New Grow Malawi Manifold

Two Ace Seeds 100% Malawi Photo Fem seeds dropped on May 4th. Both sprouted on May 6th. They went into their final home May 12th. They'll be growing in a 5050 blend of coco/perlite in 5 gallon cloth pots. I chose May 15th as the start date for the vegetative phase. The plants were top watered for almost 2 weeks. The autopot system was turned on May 27th.

The girls have grown to six nodes. Today I cut them back to the third node and removed all other growth. That forms the manifold. I tied them down. Now we'll let them grow out a bit.

    Hey, golfnrl!
I grew a photo fem Malawi Gold when AZ first legalized. Good smoke.
I also did a Durban Poison the same grow, crossed them for seeds. which sat in refrigerator for five years.
Sprouted two mid-March. In outside garden
mid-April. One has grown to five feet tall
in six weeks, exhibiting STRONG F1 hybrid vigor. Taking clones to ensure continuation of genetics. Won't know until end of year harvest, but am expecting some great southern Africa landrace sativa smoke!

    Best of luck with yours.

All of that sounds like fun!. Won't surprise me if that 5 footer goes to 10. Nug city!

"...great southern Africa landrace sativa smoke!" Doesn't that just sound good?!?!!

Thx. Tent's as clean as I could get it short of some kind of UV sterilizer. I've added two circ fans to run at lights off. Never done that before. I think dead air may have contributed to the bud rot my last grow. Not happening to me again!! AARRGGHH!!

I’m sure it will be good
I think the fans are a good idea. I see a lot of people running at least 2. I have started using two in my 4x3 once plants get bigger, plus my dehumidifier is in there blasting air a lot of the time as well. I actually just added a 3rd blowing over my light towards the exhaust.
Im right at the end and it’s hot and wet and I’m nervous. I don’t want what you had 🤞

I hope you get to the end and have a bountiful harvest. Mother Nature needs to cooperate!

The manifold was finished today. Each of the first cuts had grown to four nodes each side of the plant. I topped to the third node and removed all growth from the 2nd node. That will make 8 main colas. This cultivar is supposed to have robust side branching so I'm expecting some additional buds along the way. We'll see. I'll let the stems grow a day maybe two and tie them down to draw them away from the center.

Now to let the girls veg a while.

Flipped to 12/12 on 6/27 after 42 days of veg. I had some slow growth and PH issues along the way. I inadvertently used coco from a previous grow that had not been cleaned and reconditioned. Note the tight node spacing and small size. Yes, I have moved the dirty coco container away from the freshly reconditioned coco. I have also reminded myself to actually read the labels on the containers.

Autopot does not recommend top watering after the autopot system has been turned on because the plants push unused salts to the top of the substrate. Washing that down through the root system is not good. I was losing the plants but I flushed them anyway because I thought what else is there to lose? I ran 60L of tap water with a Cal/Mag supplemented EC of .4 and PH 6.0 through each 18L cloth pot. The final runoff was PH 6.1 and EC .4. I let everything drain and then watered in a very mild nutrient solution, dimmed the lights 2 clicks and waited. They had a speedy recovery. I'm curious now how they will produce.

I'll trim them up after the stretch. I have a net ready to scrog if need be as well.

          lol, nice save.
Yes you have to make the notes, but also read the note. I’ve had that problem.

          Looking good despite all that.
