    Curing help

    Hi all!

I think I may have over dried a bit on my first harvest!

hung for 9-10 days at 70ish f and 60’s Rh

trimmed and put into jars with hydro meters.

    after a couple
days. rh never got higher than 65. Ranged between 58-65 across the jars.

I believe that is where you want to burp down to, not start at.

so I added in 2 way Humidipak 62% rh after about a week.

its been 3 weeks holding at 62% and I haven’t been opening the jars much at all.

I’m not sure I’ve done right by my buds cause they still hold a leafy material smell, not horrible but definitely not dank.

what say you? All opinions welcome!

I'm not a fan of those packs. Your temp and humidity for drying was good. Buds tend to moisten back up when jarred, did you get any of that? If the buds become too moist after the initial jarring, put them out in the air to get a little extra dry time before going back into the jar. That can help eliminate some of the locked in chlorophyl smell. 3-4 weeks is a good cure time.

The buds never seemed to rehydrate for me, which is why I think I dried a couple days too long. They do feel more moist now holding at 62% steady. I haven’t been opening them because I thought you want to hold in the cure zone but after smelling them unopened for a week or so I’m now back to the forums....

In the past, when I over dried some bud, I just did what my uncle did when His pipe tobacco got too dry, He placed a small slice of an apple into the pouch and it re-hydrated the tobacco. It also lends a little taste to it as well. I have used orange wedges as well and I like the hint of citrus flavor that it adds.

Once I get the desired moisture / feel from the buds, I'll stop burping them frequently but maybe do it once a week or every other week. Drying and curing is not an easy process to nail every time. It's really a process of trial and error, your experience is what makes the next one better. So maybe look at this one as a learning lesson for when too much drying is too much. It's all a very fine line.

The fruit slice re-moisturizer works well, just make sure that nothing becomes moldy. Don't get too hung up on making sure everything is precisely correct and perfect. There is a lot of room in the whole process for trial and error.
