    Plant Yield

does anyone know if the weight that's posted as potential yield is dry or wet, I have 5 of seedsmans zkittlels autos and they are no way close to what it says .It states that yield could be between 400 and 500 grams per squared meter inside and up to 800 grams per plant outdoors at this point I wouldn't get 2 ounces per plant . I'm thinking they must be stating weight while wet ,heres my point if that 800 grams was dry it comes to 1.75 lbs or 7 .14 ounces if it was wet , 7.14 ounces sounds a bit more realistic to me

Well i do know from the breeder I buy from,
they say the yield is in dry weight.
But they also write that the yield is from 100% perfect conditions without any mistakes.
because I’m nowhere near the estimated “yield” and I thought; who the fuck are growing these plants to make like 600 gram in one square meter.
Just because people are over 50 doesn’t mean they know everything.
You can teach a old dog new tricks - But it will still think the old ways are the “best” lol

I assume what they post is best case scenario and an average grow will yield a fraction of what they claim.

That's the same yield as most photos claim. They liein. Flat out liein. Autos are supposed to be quick, small harvest plants.

I am with you all the way OJ and JDU. I'm happy with harvest time being quicker but yields and quality ? So far for me on indoor with autos 4 autos equals 1 photo maybe in yield and quality of smoke so far does not compare needs more THC levels. I may be a feeble auto grower so far i'll keep hunting for it trying strains different breeders. FBL yields are the best i've had and smoke is real good.

All of the breeders estimated weights that I have seen are dry weights. They are based on the square meter of canopy(3’x3’). Most breeders use the Sea of Green method under 600-1000 watts of hps lighting to achieve their estimated indoor weights. So to get 500 grams they’re growing 9 plants in a 3x3 that yield just under 2 ounces each.

How many autos can one fit in a 40"x40" square? Oldjarhead could you have fit 9 or so plants in that area?

9-3 gallon fabric pots will fit in a 34”x34” flood table inside a 3x3 tent. They’ll be tight but they’ll fit. It’s the only way I’ve seen to fit that many plants into the space without having to remove them for watering, using saucers won’t work.

I would say 9 autos in 1gal fabric would do great smoorman i am beginning to understand the ratio now thanks Obi-Wan

Yield is a product of available light over a given canopy. It can be manipulated and maximized by a growers talent and genetics do play a role but the relationship between your light and your canopy is the largest determining factor for yield. Just about everything else comes down to personal preference.

Over the course of my time on this forum I’ve seen 3 questions that stand out in my mind that are repeatedly asked over and over again. The answers to these questions are really a matter of preference and technique more so than hard and fast rules. None of them directly determine yield, they’re just different roads that lead to the same place.

          What size pot for flower?

The answer is really 2 questions. How long do you want to veg and how often do you want to water/feed. If you want a short veg and you can water multiple times a day a smaller pot will work but if you want to veg monster plants and can only water once a day you’ll need larger pots.

How many plants should I grow in my blank x blank tent?

Again, how long do you want to veg these plants? If you want to veg for 4 weeks you’re gonna want more plants to fill the space. If you’re limited by plant counts you’ll need to veg fewer plants for a longer time to fill the space. Everyone’s goal should be to fill their light’s footprint for flower, after that your lights actual wattage is a good indicator of yield potential. 400 watts should yield between 200-400 grams in a 3x3 depending on grower talent. Some exceptional growers can push past the limits but realistically they can only get so far. How do you want to get to a full canopy? It’s your choice.

Should I grow Autos or Photos?

How many tents do you want to manage? Are they all light proof? How often do you need to harvest? Not everyone wants to or can manage a 12/12 lighting schedule or multiple tents. If you need to harvest every 60-90 days with 1 tent, Autos are the only way to do it effectively. I will say that if you’re going to go the auto route you’ll need to select your genetics a little more carefully. There’s nothing more infuriating than subpar genetics when growing autos because you have to germinate a new seed every time and popping 9 seeds for a Sea of Green with autos can be an exercise in futility with subpar genetics. The breeders that show consistency from seed to seed with autos are rare. If you can manage 2 tents and a 12/12 light schedule then photos can be harvested every 60-70 days as long as you choose carefully and plan accordingly, 3 tents can get you a harvest every 30 days with photos but it’s a lot of work.

The autos I have been growing have been taking up to 16 weeks to harvest, nothing like what I thought it would be. Big old tumbleweed things, trying to do that in a 30X30 would need a lot of hieght. This has been nothing like what I thought growing autos would be. Seriously considering going back to photo's because with clones you get consistancy.

Most of the ones i've grown vary in times for harvest even same strains go short or longer but i've yet to get over an ounce per plant

This is why I grow photos and clone them, with 2 full sized tents properly timed I can harvest roughly every 70 days and my mother tent allows me to hold onto the genetics that I like.

except for the third picture these are the zkittles from seedsman and as you can see I'll be lucky to get an ounce per plant , the third picture is off 2 white widow and big bud , what a different

what gets me is when you do everything right and still get shitty yields .

I hadn't figured out why "wet" weight is even discussed on the threads, it's irrelevant

yes it is I was asking if the weight the breeders say it can produce was wet or dry because of the difference between what they say and what the plant produces, example I have white Siberian it says it can grow up to 1200 grams when in reality it will only produce a percentage of that 1200

                #13
Ok not to jump off topic, but what is wet weight? I try to dry to approximately 60/65% humidity and weigh and put away. At what humidity level would be considered dry? I keep the jars with 62% 2 way humidity packs.

wet weight is the weight it weighs right after trimming before drying ,I take 100 grams set it aside and weigh it everyday until it reaches 25 grams then I know im ready for curing
