    Foul smell in tent.

Hi folks, I've got a problem with my girls.

So yesterday I noticed a foul smell in the grow tent, I'm unsure how to describe it, but it certainly doesn't smell like they used to a few days ago. Any idea what I should look for? Maybe mildew? I'm starting to panic!

If you need more information please ask.

Pop a photo up if you can? It could be a few things. Root rot is a major cause of odor. What have you changed if anything the last few days? Is it a mix or just the coco? It can also be your plants pumping up some Badass Bud .

I'll snap a pic when I can. The only thing I can think of is that I've watered a bit more. But only because they seem to drink a lot more lately. Some of the very lower leaves has turned a yellow ish color, but only on 2 of the plants. It is also quite crowded in the tent. However I am afraid to stress them too much with defoliation, but maybe I should defoliate more. I've only taken up to two leaves every now and then.

Only pure coco in 3 gal pots.

I've read here on the forum that coco does not hold or retain lots of water or nutes and can be overwatered easily. Just what I've read.

Being autos at day 50 should mean they're flowering nicely which also means they'll be drinking more water and also starting to stink the place up. Can you narrow it down by smelling the buds and trying to smell down around the coir?
By watering more are you talking move water volume, or more often? I water straight coco to runoff once per day.

I got a 400m3/h exhaust fan turned to 35% with passive intake and a 20cm circulation fan, not an oscillating one though.

Do you have an estimate on how many liters of water you feed each plant? I've been feeding until runoff and then stop. Maybe I should water until I get more runoff?

in about 17L - 4 gal black plastic pots of straight coir I got up to 4-5L per plant per day (1.1-1.3gal) to achieve my 20-30% runoff.
Currently outdoors in bigger pots my ladies are getting 6L per day.

Indoors I use two 6"/15cm clip on fans that don't oscilate plus an 535m3/h hyper fan exhaust on a thermostat speed controller so it sits at idle speed and if temps increase, fan speed increases.
Try to get your temps down a bit, aim for 18-26C in flower, I usually aim in the middle for about 22C.

Alright, I meant a 15cm clip on fan.

And I've been feeding them maybe half, if not less than you. Also the coco feels quite compressed when I feel it with my fingers, but not wet. Unsure of it is due to roots or if it's just gotten compressed with time. Next time I'll definitely add perlite.

I'll turn up my fan a bit to see if the odor gets any better. Do you think I should defoliate more? See pic's below.

Note: the burnt leaf and one with dots taken underneath is from the same plant, rest of the leaves look fine. Little bit of burnt on the edges but nothing serious .

    Increase K
Get oxygen to the roots- pull back the top soil from the stem to the containers edge.
Punch holes in the fabric pot (don't forget the bottom)
It's all bullshit - until you smoke it!

I've had smells because of fertilizer after watering. If you have a liner for the bottom of your tent make sure nothing got under. I keep my plants elevated on plant saucers. That is, putting a plant on an upside down saucer for circulation around the holes I made in the sides of the pots.. I also have a fan on the floor of my tent to keep nutes from pooling and getting a bit of extra oxygen to the roots.
      C'mon, mule!

Issue is now resolved, thank you everyone for your help!

        What I did:
Upped the extraction fan to 50%
        Defoliate for better airflow/circulation
Oxygenated(?) the nutrient solution before feeding
        Raised the pots

Honestly not 100% sure. I do believe it was a combination of bad air circulation, high-ish humidity & too much heat. Glad I caught it in time though 🙂
