🌱 Your seedlings look beautiful! Make sure the Rapid Rooter is moist, but doesn't look shiny or wet (since that is a little too wet and can cause mushy roots). If you've got a top feed, it can help to move it lower down in the net pot, so it's not actually touching the Rapid Rooter itself. The wicking action from the hydroton, along with the splashing from the bubbling reservoir below, will make sure the Rapid Rooter stays moist enough the roots don't dry out without the top feed actually touching the Rapid Rooter directly.

Not sure if you're interested in what's worked best for me but I've done about 5 grows (very small, only 2 plants each time) in hydro under a MH/HPS (so still a beginner, but I do have a little first-hand experience). I know you have a smaller MH light, but I put my 600W MH about 4 feet above new seedlings (at full strength) and then once they get a few leaves I'll move it down to 2 feet than then let them grow up to it and try to keep it 16" away the rest of the vegetative stage. Since you have a 400W and it's at half strength, I bet you could bring it way closer to your seedlings than what you have now. You don't want to overwhelm them, but seedlings do grow a little faster when they get a good amount of light.

I've also had the best luck providing seedling-strength nutrients for week one, and always pH'ed to between 5.5-6.3. I try not to disturb their roots or move them around until they've got a few nodes, because I feel like if you move the roots it can trigger root rot or stunting when they're really little. Anyways, I'm not an expert, but I've had good luck starting seedlings that way in my DWC tub.

Just curious, what nutrients are you using? 🌱

My plants from my last DWC grow (just to prove I'm not totally bullshitting you). This is right before the switch to 12/12. These two were waaaaay too bushy to start flowering (and I basically defoliated the crap out of them before initiating the flowering stage), which I think is a testament to how happy and fast-growing they were I've found that vegetative plants seem to do REALLY well and just grow tons of leaves and get bushy under an MH!

I have 2 600w MH/HPS only one in use right now until I separate the strongest plants into the own reservoirs in 2-3 weeks. It is 4 feet above the tanks right now at 50%. When the first leaves come in I'm lowering it to 16-18" above and going to 100%

for germination I used plain ph'd water right at 6.1 in tank 1 and 6.0 in tank 2.

i do my first reservoir change Sunday night. I'll be adding in the hydroguard, GH Micro and GH Growth and ph the water.

i can back my tubes off they are a little close to the rooters
      thanks for the heads up

I'm looking forward to seeing them grow as well. I had a fear that the tiny little seeds I got were duds...primarily from some poorly remembered misinformation from my teen years.

I remember fat tiger stripe seeds were the the most likely to grow in my totally ignorant youth.

my only regret is not have started this years ago.

🌱 Did you know that the tiger stripes on cannabis seeds are just part of a coating? All seeds come with stripes originally, but the coating can be rubbed off, and seeds are sort of tan underneath.

You are going to love growing so much! It seems like you're really on top of it and have a nice setup. I'm growing a plant in soil for the first time right now, and I miss how clean hydro is. I keep having to deal with bugs in soil I feel like my plants grew a lot faster in hydro, too! 🌱

hey berry I didn't know that about the seed coating . I grow in soil well coco but a friend grows in hydro I'm so jealous of how quick his plant grow ,then I hear some of the issues he seems to have and I just smile and thank the creator for growing in coco lol. try putting a layer of coco on top of the soil the bugs dont seem to like it .it may hepl I had knats once, put the sticky pads in and never had another problem. oh that is one smokin hot little lady you have there

My last grow (24 years ago) was in a walk-in closet with 8 10gal buckets and only one 600w hps.

My roommate and I made so many mistakes...but still smoked our meager headache inducing yield..ut of some sort of phyrric victory pride. The cat constantly finding it's way into the closet didn't help either.

i literally custom built this space specifically for this project. I could've gotten tents...but this way they're behind 2 locked doors.

My cat thankfully cannot access my workshop. Even if she could there is no way in for her. My intakes are filtered and I'd see her if she tried to come through the door.

The cat used the soil in our pots for something far worse and ph-imbalancing. The bathroom ugh

72 hours after putting the seeds in.

CB1, CB2 and BN2 are rocking it. PM2 is strong. BN1 and PM1 are lagging. I think I either drowned the WW's or they just weren't good candidates.

The strong seedlings are going crazy CB1&2, PM2 and BN1.
BN2 is catching up but PM1 is slacking. WW1 is showing smalls signs of life, so I'm not ruling it out yet.

WW2 though...slight curl of a taproot but no progress in 4days. Declaring WW2 out of the running

IanHale you've got a bit too much stretch there; lower your lights or whatever you need to do to give them more light. You don't want the stems getting so gangly. Otherwise, they look great!!! There's nothing like vigorous babies!!!
